“First class staff, service and accommodation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013 via mobile

We returned to the Apex for an overnight stay.
The location of the hotel is perfect for easy access to many of the landmarks that Edinburgh has to offer.
The staff were courteous and helpful and our room had stunning views over the city.
Breakfast was delicious and there was a wide selection available.
All in all... Waterloo Place is a fantastic hotel that we hope to return to soon!

I was very impressed with the hotel as a whole and the staff at the recption desk were always welcoming and friendly. Our room was a decent size with a walk in shower (amazing) and a seperate bathtub large enough for two adults to lie quite comfortably in together.

However i do have a few negative comments.
First was that our room always felt cold, even with the heating on full blast, it was never more than ok.
The shower temperature was unpredictable. One moment it was lovely and warm and next you were jumping/yelping from boiling hot or freezing cold water!
And finally the WiFi was a nightmare. You had to keep reconnecting to it. If you left the hotel or used the WiFi later you had to reconnect all the time which was an incovieniance when trying to find routes, maps etc.

I would still recommend people to stay at The Apex as it is on Princes Street, right in the heart of everything! Close to the train station, bus tours, shops, bars, resturants etc.

Room Tip: Ground floor rooms have quick and easy acess to enterance, reception, dining area, bar and lifts

We were really pleased with our hotel choice for our 4 night stay in Edinburgh at Easter. The location is great- right next to Waverley station and the end of Princes street and a 10 minute walk to Old Town. The rooms were lovely - spacious for a city hotel, clean and quiet. The breakfasts were also really good- a really good mix of fruit/yoghurt/pastries etc followed by really nice cooked dishes in sensible-sized portions. Would definitely stay again next time in the city (provided we could get a decent rate again).

My girlfriend booked us into this hotel for my 21st birthday on Friday 5th April and we had a truly amazing time. My girlfriend had informed them of the occasion and they upgraded our room to a duluxe which was very nice. It was incredibly spacious, had all the things you would expect and was incredibly comfortable. It was also so relaxing being able to come back to the spa complex with sauna and steam room after a long days exploring around Edinburgh. The pool was fantastic and just what you would expect in a city-style hotel - some guests previously commented that it was too small but for a city-centre location I don't really know what more you could expect! We thought it was fantastic. The hotel also booked us a taxi which arrived on-time and took us to our restaurant (The Kitchin - would highly recommend). The only slight negative was that the temperature of the shower in our room did fluctuate and you'd find it being nice one moment and then too hot/cold the next, however this was only a minor issue and did not cause us any real problems!
Generally, for the money paid, this hotel is fantastic - its location in Edinburgh couldn't be much better (within walking distance of everything) and the rooms and staff are of the same standard. Would highly recommend to anyone wanting a break in this wonderful city.

Room Tip: We asked for a higher room which was great and rooms on the front of the hotel are nice with huge wi...

Stayed here in the summer too and loved the location so came back. Got a great deal. Rooms are great. Didn't bother with breakfast this time as plenty of better cafes nearby, and it was manic last time.

It would be a shame if I did not share my admiration for this hotel with other travellers , especially with those who may have had unpleasant experiences while travelling with children. In many hotels, family rooms are frequently cramped and basic.. Not so in this hotel !.The room was large, beautifully furnished, immaculately maintained and fully equipped with everything a family would require (and more), There was a marvellous selection of teas and coffee,an espresso coffee machine for the adults and complimentary sweets for the children. Bottles of water, again compliments of the hotel, were supplied daily. The bathroom toiletries bordered on the luxurious.
Staff were polite and extremely helpful and were prepared to go that extra mile. They were knowledgeable about sightseeing , entertainment and family fun. On arrival ,children were given an activity pack containing crayons, colouring book and "bits and bobs".What a lovely thought !
Breakfasts (buffet and waiter service) were extremely satisfying, a varied selection and again, children adequately catered for.Room service is provided 24 hours ,again with a varied menu.
The hotel is excellently located, within very short walking distance to Waverley Station and adjacent to Princes Street, Playhouse and Cinema Complex. i thoroughly enjoyed my stay as did my daughter and, no wonder, my 7year oll granddaughter wants to return with her parents. I highly recommend the Apex Hotel, Waterloo Place and the City of Edinburgh

Room Tip: Room at front of hotel

This is a lovely modern hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh. It is a quick walk from the train station and all the main sights. The staff were friendly and the hotel had a good quality finish.
We booked a larger room and then had a small upgrade to a top floor room when we checked in which was a nice surprise. Our bedroom and bathroom both had wonderful views and felt very light and airy. The bathroom was large for the UK and had a separate bath and shower. The bath overlooked the city.
The bed was large and comfortable. The only downside with sleep quality was that in the morning we could hear the peak hour traffic. Monday morning was the noisiest! Also, the shutters aren't actually blackout but this really isn't too much of a problem. The traffic was more annoying.
Overall, a nice place to stay.
