“Very atmospheric and welcoming”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 3, 2012

Great food and a great atmosphere. Only criticism was the food was served so so quickly, hardly time to draw breath between courses.

“Cosy and down to earth with good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

Don't expect Michelin star food, just a cosy restaurant with no pretensions and inventive food with a Spanish influence, cooked and presented well. A little on the expensive side but a refreshing change from the assumption that Spanish food is all about tapas. Definitely worth a visit.

“Outstanding service, cosy atmosphere, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2012

My wife and I went to Rafael's for the first time this weekend. We enjoyed the cosy, inviting atmosphere and very much appreciated the excellent service we received from Raphael and the other staff members. The meals options were inspired and our dinner was one of the top five we've had in Edinburgh. Recommended.

“Excellent food, wines and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 25, 2012

Rafael's is a great small restaurant which has never disappointed in many visits. It's a small restaurant with a menu which changes daily, but always has several things you want to try.
Rafael and his staff take care to explain all the dishes to you and their service is attentive but not intrusive. I can also recommend the very reasonably priced house red wines. In two recent visits, our bill has been less than £40 per head for 3 courses, a bottle of wine, coffee and liquers. Excellent value for an Edinburgh restaurant.

We used to save visits for special occasions, but the food is so good and the prices so reasonable, that we're becoming regular visitors.

“Fantastic food, service and ambience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2012

We eat out a lot and this has been the best meal and setting for a long time. The host, Rafael who is also the chef couldn't have been more welcoming. Talked us through the varied menu. Starter of cheese tart was to die for. Lamb leg steaks with fresh veg and a thyme sauce was cooked to perfection. Dessert of summer pudding was the best I've had. Very reasonable wine list, house red was great and £14. No rush as the table is booked once only. Service is great. Does feel as though you are eating in his dining room but as a couple we still felt we had a private table. Can't recommend it enough. £40 per head for three courses, wine, coffees and whiskeys. Definitely need to book!
