There were four of us who stayed in Point Hotel in two bedrooms. I must say all four of us enjoyed our stay and were quite satisfied with the amenities, service, overall decor and location of the hotel. Our rooms had a clear beautiful view of the castle perched atop the volcanic solid. The rooms were spacious, clean, well organised and quite functional. The attached bathrooms were also reasonably functional. If you are looking to spoil yourself all day in a luxurious jacuzzi, this is probably not the place to be. But if you would like to stay comfortably in a modern well-serviced hotel in the old city close to the Grassmarket and the local pubs and shops, this is a recommended place. The location is simply fantastic with the tourist spots in the old town just a few minutes' walk away and loads of quaint little eateries nearby. Overall, we had a good experience and would like to come back to this hotel sometime soon.

just returned from a 3 night stay in Edinburgh at the Point Hotel (3-6 March 2007)- it was great. i started using this website recently, so wanted to write a review as it was really helpful for me. We are already talking about our next visit which is a good sign. i booked this as a surprise for my boyfriend, and was really pleased with the choice. Prior to arriving i contacted the hotel to upgrade, and they were very helpful and efficient. The Point is a modern, simple hotel, with friendly, efficient and extremely helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and the staff gave us good tips on where to visit. The room was quite minimalistic, but clean with a good powerful shower! The Bed was enormous and comfy! we stayed on the third floor and took a sneak up to the fourth floor - although we did not see into a room, it looked newer, but our room was nice enough. All staff seemed like they wanted to be there, and were very attentative. We sampled the bar and restaurant food, both extremely nice. The hotel was conveniently located to attractions - approx 10 minute walk from princes street, five minutes up the hill to the castle, and a few minutes walk from the grassmarket area. we sampled the tour bus, which was well worth doing early on to get a feel for this wonderful city. EVERYBODY we came across in the city was friendly and helpful - made a refreshing change. We were able to have a stress free break, and i also booked my boyfriend a surprise massage at the hotel, which was also great and well organised.

Just came back from a 2 night stay at the Point Hotel in Edinburgh and wasn't dissappointed. The hotel is in a great location only 5 minutes from Grassmarket and 10 minutes from the old town. The staff are extremely helpful, especially the reception staff.

Pushed the boat out a bit and booked the Jacuzzi suite - well recommended!! I phoned the hotel direct and got the suite for a bargain £145 including a yummy breakfast. Room was spotless. Only slight grumble was that there was no mini-bar but hey-ho.

I will definitely go back when I return to Edinburgh.

We wanted to stay somewhere special for a our first visit to Edinburgh and were very, very disapointed by this hotel, strange as the reviews looked very good! And not cheap either.
Since we have arrived back we have looked at the reviewers and most of them are from 1st time reviewers like ourselves. We then read back some more pages and this hotel gets a bad press, (!) and most of what is written about bad service, rundown appearance and dirty rooms rung true, the bathroom was truely off-putting with mould and damp.
Something is not right here, is someone playing with the reviews, as tripadvisor is normally spot on for us?

We would not go back to this hotel, sorry.

Management response from Neil_Ellis, General Manager
(Management representative)
Mar 1, 2007
It is a shame that someone writes a review, making sweeping statements about everything but complains about one thing in specific. The suggestion of 'playing' with reviews works both ways actually! I would have preferred that the reviewer had taken the time during their stay to explain any concerns to my management team or myself. We have embarked on a redevelopment programme to upgrade all of the accommodation to an above 4 star standard and are well on our way. This, along with our staff development and training programme allows us to deliver exceptional service, punch above our 3* grading time and time again. A fact that the vast majority of our guests would agree with. For those travellers whom may look at this site and perhaps have second thoughts can I maybe make a suggestion? Please call the Hotel directly and I am sure they can allay any concerns you may have. If you're not happy with what they've said, DON'T BOOK, its that simple. Despite what some reviewers may write, most Hoteliers do care, and want each and every one of their guests to have a refreshing experience.

This hotel is genuinely fantastic. The staff could not have been more helpful or professional. We arrived early in the morning well before our room was supposed to be ready and they found us an available room without additional charge. The atmosphere is very cool - a great bar and restaurant with brilliant staff helping to achieve that. Rooms are spacious and the hotel is well located for shops and all the sights, including great views of the Castle from the hotel itself. The management has got staff recruitment and motivation down to a tee and I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
