This is possibly the worst hotel I've stayed in. The bed was very uncomfortable with springs sticking out, and the minimalist look didn't work, it only looked spartan. Very drab, and tired looking. The bathroom was tiny, and the area left a lot to be desired. Went to the bar and it was very expensive

My husband and I had an enjoyable stay at the Point -- very comfortable bed, plenty of hot water, fantastic view of the Castle. Our only complaint: poor air circulation -- we couldn't open the window in our room. But a very nice staff person brought us a fan, and the problem was solved! Centrally located, the Point enabled us to walk everywhere. We paid 80 pounds a night, breakfast included -- their spring promotion deal -- and the price was just right.

I am regular visitor to Edinburgh and usually stay at the v trad Roxburghe, but having read about the chic, modern design of the Point and having walked past the impressive reception I opted to stay for a 5 day business trip. I even paid extra for an executive room. I have stayed at other boutique hotels in the world incl Hotel Gallery Art in Florence, Gran Hotel Domine in Bilbao and the Morrison in Dublin - all of which are similarly priced and all 4/5 star. The Point is terrible, shabby rooms, dirty bathrooms, IKEA furniture mixed with hotel rejects and awful service. There was not one redeeming feature. We left the next day and the staff did not even ask us why we were leaving early - which I can only presume is a reflection on their being used to guests walking out early!

Stayed here for a long weekend recently with my girlfriend and (after reading some of the bad reviews on this site which left me slightly worried!) we were pleasantly surprised...

the good Points - large room with fantastic view of the castle, very central location, nice architecture and interior design (particularly the reception and bar), helpful staff, good price (found a deal on the net).

the bad Points - fire alarm going off every morning, basic (soggy) breakfast, strange use of old and new furniture in rooms.

Overall, a good hotel in a great location - approach with an open mind and you won't be disappointed.
