I stayed for 1 night on business, mid week. 35 year old male on own.
Good points -
Went to drop off bag in left luggage at 09:00am. Got my room there and then.
Very polite and friendly reception staff
Room had a view of Edinburgh Castle
Big, comfortable bed
Leather sofa
Good sound-proofing
Food in restaurant good quailty, but as they add supplements to almost anything on the menu, you are looking at a good £25+ for a 3-course set meal before drinks
Restuarant staff very friendly, and professional
Check-out very efficient
Good location for tourists and the Lothain Road/Morrison Street business area. (Not so immediate for Trains, although only 10 mins walk to Haymarket)
Shower so powerful you feel like you've been violated when you get out!!
Nice complimentary toiletries
Cheap room rate direct with hotel, but offset by overpriced breakfast.
Breakfast itself fine though not worth £12-odd
Bad points -
Corridors lit by neon and very low light. Rather than being minimalist (as the hotel is trying to be), it is actually rather dismal and depressing. The walls and carpets are rather tired looking
The minimalist theme in the rooms is simply not working - the walls are plain white, the room was very long and thin. The furniture was not minimalist, but cheap, reproduction antique - simply out of place.
The bathroom was simply a disgrace - mouldy, discoloured grout prevails. Basic, very unstylish toilet and sink. Underside of toilet seat not clean (unforgivable). Old, chipped towel rail.
Cheap shower curtain that clings to you (I've been known to leave a hotel for this annoyance - it makes showering a real pain)
Summary - Would I stay here again - probably not. There's plenty more for the money. I actually prefer the Premier Inn on Morrison Link as it's good value, and you know what you are getting.
Shame, I've always fancied this hotel, but felt let down by the experience.
