We stayed for nights at The Point in late October 2007. Our room was clean and spacious with lounge area that could be seperated from the rest of the room with a large sliding panel. Our view of Edinburgh Castle was fabulous. The window spanned the width of the room and directly faced the beautiful castle which looked even more spectacular when floodlit at night. My partner requsted a suprise bouquet and bottle of champers for our arrival which was brilliant, flowers fantastic quality, lasted nearly 2 weeks!
Bed comfortable and room tastefully decorated. Bathroom slightly more dated than the rest of the room and slightly shabby but did not detract from our general feelings about the room.
We ate breakfast in the hotel everyday and found a large variety of buffet food with supplementary free options such as haggis, poached eggs and black pudding. All very pleasing!
We also ate in the restaurant on one evening and the food was reasonably priced and delicious. We also frequented the excellent cocktail bar in the hotel which was funky and fabulous. The cocktails were second to none!
The corridors were different, long and grey with the odd neon lights which were a bit trippy particularly after some of the aforementioned cocktails, we quite enjoyed them although they did betray the buildings original function as a department store.
We loved it in the hotel and would happily return. Spectacular food, great service, lovely rooms.
