We had an early flight into Edinburgh, so we decided to drop off our bags at the hotel and go out and get breakfast. We were shocked to find that they would have the room ready for us almost instantly at 8 in the morning!! We were able to catch a few winks before heading out into town. Which the hotel is right in the middle of. Pretty much next door to the castle, a few minutes walk from princess street. The staff was incredibly welcoming and genuinely seemed interested in us having a good stay. I loved it. The hotel had interesting lighting, and art hanging on the walls. The room was the largest for the price out of any of the $-$$ hotels we stayed in. Even had a flat screen TV with more than 3 channels on it..... I KNOWWWWW! The service and location would be hard to beat. Excellent hotel in this price range.

We just got back from spending two nights at The Point, and I'm afraid to say that we were extremely disappointed with the overall experience.

The room itself, whilst very large, was poorly decorated (plain white painted walls, no colour except for a pretty shabby-looking pale purple carpet). The general quality of the finishings was also poor (very cheap door handles, taps etc) - not what you might expect for £180 per night. In fact, the only real saving grace for the room was the very luxurious double-jacuzzi (although even this did not look to be properly sealed around the wall).

Breakfast was also a disappointment, being a fairly poor (self-service) selection, with bad coffee, very limited fresh fruit, and seemingly disinterested staff. To be frank, the only time we were impressed with the staff was when we actually checked out, when the reception staff were very friendly and efficient.

In general, it is clear to see what this hotel is trying to achieve (ie. being a fresh-looking, stylish, modern place to stay), but the inescapable problem is that, quite simply, not enough time, effort, or money has been spent on doing it - certainly not for the prices they are charging.

  • Liked — Double-jacuzzi
  • Disliked — Overpriced, general lack of quality

The hotel was described in our Guide Book as the most contemporary hotel in edinburgh and we booked it on that basis for a two night stay expecting it to be very clean, trendy & modern in style. We were extremly dissapointed as the hotel was cheaply modernised & failed we felt in its attempt at being a trendy art hotel. The lighting was low and fluorescent but it didnt hide the scuffed and marked paintwork on the walls in the corridors. The carpets were not so clean either. Our double room was narrow but adequate & the bed was a very decent size & confortable but the bedding was poorly maid & laundered & the room not as clean as i would hope. The bathroom was dated and a bit worn. We had a terrible back street view looking onto other buildings. Again the walls painted white were scuffed & marked in our room. The bar would have been nice if again it wasnt looking so worn and tatty. But definately the reception bar and restaurant were the best parts of the hotel where i feel most of the design & cleaning effort was centred the rest was very forgettable. The location is not bad.
Wont be going back.

  • Liked — The reception, restaurant & Bar in that order
  • Disliked — The corridors, the room and the bathroom

I stayed at this hotel for a conference - it is situated a 5 min walk from Edinburgh International Conference Centre. I was upgraded from a double room to a suite, this consisted of a small double room and a study. The view from the huge window was amazing, and when the fog lifted (!!) the castle looked amazing.

The hotel interior is a litle odd, it is a bit dark and industrial looking but the rooms are bright.

The staff were very helpful and the bar was very nice. The breakfast was good - though being a Scot I was hoping for some square sausage- but the fried haggis was great!

  • Liked — The view from the room
  • Disliked — I couldn't see the tv from the bed!

I stayed here in June 2008. It is in close proximity to the centre of Edinburgh and with a good view of the castle. Check in was prompt and efficient. The room was a decent size with a comfortable bed. However the bathroom was a bit shabby with damp around the bath, a leaking shower and chipped décor. The windows of the room did not seem to shut properly as I could hear, very clearly, the noise from the road outside. Light sleepers may wish to avoid rooms at the front of the hotel. The restaurant was bright and airy on the ground floor overlooking Bread Street. I only had breakfast in the restaurant which was good with a decent selection. Overall a decent and comfortable hotel.
