Just returned from a break away at the Point Hotel. This is the second time we've been and the hotel is lovely and very central. The staff are also very friendly. On our last visit we were given a back-facing room, we really enjoyed our stay and there were no problems hence why we decided to go back. However, this visit we were given a front facing room which gave views of the castle. It was very noisy through the night from people passing by on the street and also a strange sound of like water running through the system during the night (like the people next door were having a shower at 3 in the morning!) which kept us awake for most of the night. On our second night we were also woken at 3.30am by our phone in the room ringing. When i phoned down to reception I was told that it was probably another room trying to get an outside line. I felt that this just topped a noisy weekend where we got hardly any sleep.

I would visit the hotel again but would advise that you request a back facing room!!!

Overall, this hotel is very nice and modern and you should give it a visit (as long as you get a room at the back).

We stayed at the Point for a weekend, the area was OK, but a few sleazy bars around the hotel. The hotel itself was quite modern, however the rooms and furnishings were a little tired and worn. Overall the room met our needs. The views to the castle were a highlight

Sorry guys,

but again your hotel was the wors'.....hang on lets be fair, we had a real funny time and knew what to expect from our last stay in new year 2006/7, but couldn't find Basil anywhere this time....only this time it was free, courtesy of gift to my other half, and they say it's a small world, it realy is!

Rooms: cheap and cheapful...but not clean, what do you mean unclean....hair in the sink, tide marks, stains on carpet, mould on window frames.....I call that unclean!

Food: Main course served cold,OK I'm picky just above room temp' at best, asked for replacement and staff said "no problem be right back"..... got same dish back again just reheated and re-arranged...and this WAS a meat dish, how did we know? We wrote "I'm cold 'n chilling" in red lipstick for a grin on the bottom of the plate!

Staff: Helpful this time but not too happy, had a sort of I do this for the money and really don't want to be here attitude.

Did we complain...no not this time coudn't be asked, 'Pointless' you may say, just laughed it off and still had fun, afterall we weren't paying.

We had a look at the reviews again and this hotel still gets either great or real poor...what does that say....again?!?

Cheers, and hope this is off some help to both Point and customers.

Richard

My friend and I stayed at the Point for 4 nights just before Easter. I do not understand the fuss about lap-dancing clubs in some of the other reviews. These clubs are along a street several minutes' walk from the hotel and in the direction away from the city centre. If you approach the hotel from the Princes Street area you will never see them. Hotel itself was fine - attractive and original decor, feeling of spaciousness, beautiful view of the Castle (floodlit at night) from our room. Bedroom very clean and modern - white walls, big window, a slightly cold feel perhaps, enormous comfortable bed, subtle lighting. Bathroom a bit old-fashioned and cramped in comparison - water temperature difficult to control, toilet flush sometimes unreliable, shower so viciously powerful that we didn't use it. Breakfast served in ground floor restaurant - wide range of hot and cold food on offer in a self-service buffet: good quality, but the hot food was not so hot after being on display for a few minutes. Staff very active and hard-working in replenishing food supplies and clearing used tables. We ate twice in the evening in the restaurant because the cold weather dissuaded us from going out. Restaurant seeks to be a venue for an evening out, and not just a place for a simple meal, I think. Food excellently prepared and presented but prices rather high. Only complaint - level of lighting was so low that we had difficulty reading the menu and seeing the food on the plates ! I would happily stay at the Point again if I came back to Edinburgh. Our stay was good value for money considering the standard of the facilities.

  • Disliked — Bathroom facilities below expectation

Absolutely brill hotel, no complaints except TOTALLY NO SMOKING. Staff absolutely lovely, couldn't do enough, very efficient even held onto bags for us as flight was later in day and gave us a receipt!!! how efficient is that. The shower, well, I came out of it with my eyes bloodshot, unreal shower, it would "take the skin off your back" as my friend said. Overall, FAB HOTEL
