My boyfriend and I spent 3 nights at the Point between 29/Feb and 3rd March. We stayed in a standard double which was spotlessly clean and the bed was every bit as comfortable as others have described!! Fab sleep every night. Also on the subject of sleep (a favourtie pastime!) there was no noise from the hotel at all - despite the fact that it seemed busy with residents all weekend. We found the hotel to be modern and clean, and loved the funky bar - the cocktails are fantastic! Also, the atmosphere in the bar is lovely when busy and is clearly a popular venue for non-residents too making it a great "buzzing" nightspot.
When we checked in we were offered the chance to book for breakfast at a reduced rate of £6.50 per head, rather than the £10 advertised. As we were room only, this seemed like a fair offer and the breakfast buffet was really good too!
In terms of location, I did notice the lapdancing clubs nearby but its not as if you get any of the "clientale" in the hotel or hovering outside. It is very localised and there is no need to go to that end of town if you dont want to. We found the hotel to be in a very good location, within walking distance of the castle and the centre of Edinburgh.
The food at the hotel was excellent and the service was genuinely friendly and polite at all times. It is certainly a hotel where you can spend time, and not use just as a base or somewhere to get your head down at night. If you want a romantic relaxed weekend with sightseeing on your doorstep, this is the venue. I wholeheartedly recommend the Point.
