I can highly recommend Botanics B&B in Edinburgh. The house is tastefully decorated throughout (a refreshing change from the swirly carpets found at some B&Bs!) and we felt instantly relaxed. The bedrooms had a lovely outlook to the gardens behind and were very compfortable and quiet - the location of the B&B is perfect. All the benifits of the bustling city of Edinburgh only a few minutes taxi ride away (or bus at the end of the street) whilst enjoying the tranquility and peace of the area surrounding the Botanical Gardens (which are great to visit). The owner is extremely friendly and very knowledgable about things to do and good places to visit in Edinburgh. For us it was the perfect place stop-off whilst travelling between Eastern England and North West Scotland.
My wife and I stayed here during the Edinurgh Fringe Festival 2008 and it was perfect. Eleanor was great, very accommodating. The room was beautiful and cozy. The locations was beautiful with great restaurants and bars within a close walk so you can easily check out the less touristic areas! The breakfast was also really great and getting back and forth from the center of the city was a breeze.
We highly recommend this place!
We loved our stay at Botanics Bed & Breakfast. Situated just outside the city centre which is easily accessed by the excellent public transport facilities, it provided a very comfortable and relaxing stay in the midst of the hecticness of the Edinburgh Festival. The facilities were excellent including a homely and spacious kitchen as well as a comfortable sitting room with a quiet secluded garden to the rear. Eleonor could not have been more helpful in her organisation of our stay, including making alternative arrangements to meet us and providing us with further information on the city and advice on what to see in the festival. We would highly recommend this B&B and will be returning for our stay in December.
Having no clue how far the Botanical Gardens were from the city center other than a glimpse at a map I was a bit concerned about transportation around the city. Eleanor, the owner, assured me that there was plenty of mass-transit that would deliver me practically anywhere I wanted to go so I booked and she was not wrong. But really, who needs mass transit??? If you catch a lovely weekend weather wise then walking through the Botanics (with the entrance right across the street) or the Stockbridge area is a wonderful way to start any day of touring. Plus, there are many cafes within a few minutes walk that just scream 'come and sit inside!'
My room was extremely comfy with all types of interesting items from the host's travels. I was also quite happy to be able to have breakfast at my own leisurely pace as opposed to so many places that constrict you to hours that I find far too early when I am on holiday. If you aren't dead set on being in the middle of town but want to be able to get their in no time flat then this place is fab!
