My wife and two of our friends stayed two nights at 23 Mayfield and it was definitely one of the highlights of our visit to Edinburgh. This beautifully restored home is a 4-Star B&B and it definitely lived up to its rating!
Our rooms, priced at 69 Pounds per night, were very large and nicely furnished. Everything, from the super plush towels and washcloths, to the large comfortable beds, to the en suite bathroom facilities, to the flat-screen tv in our room was top-rate!
The breakfasts were to die for. Young Ross Birnie, who owns the house with his wife Kathleen, was in the kitchen doing the cooking. We had a wide range of choices including a traditional Scottish Breakfast, with black pudding, haggis, potatoes, bacon, sausage, eggs, tomatoes with thyme, orange juice, apple juice, porridge and tea or coffee. The next day we enjoyed a Belgian waffle and haddock topped with a poached egg. Everything was superb and beautifully presented.
23 Mayfield is conveniently located in Mayfield Gardens, with a bus stop right out front that takes you to the heart of Edinbugh in minutes.
We would recommend this B&B to anyone seeking a good place to stay in Edinburgh.
