“Superb stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2014

We had a delightful stay at this little home from home. Ken and Linda were superb hosts, and were very welcoming and forthcoming with local knowledge and banter (well, we had visited Scotland for the rugby no less!). The breakfasts were superb, really setting us up for the day. The bedroom was beautiful, spacious and well equipped, and the bed was so comfortable (best night's sleep in a long time).
The location is great as well, a charming 20 minute walk from the centre of Edinburgh. We would definitely stay with Ken and Linda again in this beautiful B&B when we next visit Edinburgh.

This actually feels like home. Absolutely spotless rooms and
furniture. The family room was large, with a sofa and a large TV. The
decoration both in the room as well as the bathroom was very
impressive and yet subdued. The bathroom and toilet were pristine. The family room is secluded on the top floor, and the bathroom/toilet is
across the corridor - with all areas amply lighted, and again, with
very pleasant decor indeed. Ken and Linda came across as old
acquaintances and one cannot ask for more kindness and generosity.
Breakfast was fantastic. I am vegetarian and Linda actually cooked a
vegetarian sausage for me! My son had to go out for an exam very early
in the morning, and Linda made sure that he could carry some packed
lunch/breakfast with him, as he would not be in for the normal cooked
breakfast, and it was a very generous portion, I must say. My son was
mighty impressed overall, and absolutely loved the room and thinks
this is the 'bestest' place that he has ever stayed in! To me, this
was just like home - and I will go back there again for sure, the next
time I am in Edinburgh.

You'll be well taken care of by the engaging and efficient Ken and Linda. You can get in a conversation about anything from Scotland's history to the Heart of Midlothian football team. The continental and full breakfasts were of generous proportions and were delicious. You're a 15-20 minute, non-strenuous walk from the center city. If you're looking for a B&B in Edinburgh, Bield is a terrific choice.

Room was PRISTINE... Breakfast was MARVELOUS, being given several delicious choices, with charming presentation... Hosts, Ken and Linda, we're AMAZING, going the extra mile again and again to accommodate and help us. Located in a quiet residential area, with bus connections just outside the door, this was exactly what we were searching for. We stayed 8 nights, experiencing Edinburgh and other day trips of Scotland to its fullest! Bield is Gaelic for "Sanctuary." It was just that for us! If I ever return to Edinburgh, I will want to stay here again.

Great place to stay, such a warm welcome really friendly and helpful and lovely room. It's a bit out of town bus the bus stop is just across the road so you can choose the pleasant 20 minute walk or hop on the bus. Great value. Would definitely stay again.

One of the best B&B experiences we've ever had. The property is a lovely house not far from the city center - it's a nice walk (maybe 20 minutes) into town but there are also three buses that stop just across the road and arrive very frequently. Our room was immaculate and the bathroom was spotless. But the real treasures of Bield are Ken and Linda (and Carrie!), who made us feel at home and were very kind to us indeed. Our full-on Scottish breakfasts (with veg sausage no less for us non-carnivores) were such a treat - in addition, there was always fresh fruit, yogurt, cereals and of course tea and coffee. Prices are very reasonable. Big thanks again to Ken and Linda for a brilliant stay and giving us a home base for a great time in Edinburgh. Highly recommended.

We stayed here 4 days. Very good value for Edinburgh. Although not precisely in New Town, it is in a quiet suburban neighborhood, and is very conveniently located 50 feet from a bus stop from which you can reach Princes Street or the castle in 5 minutes. It is within 10 minutes walk of Princes Street. Ken and Linda are most welcoming. The room was lovely. The breakfasts belt busting.
