“It was ok for a night.”

We stayed at this hotel because of an in house organised event. Having already read the reviews prior to our nights’ stay we were prepared for the worst.

Yes from the outside it does look tired and shabby. We soon worked out where the supplied hotel photograph was taken from - a picture taken at a distance was the only way you could do this hotel some kind of justice.

The inside decor brought a welcomed sigh of relief. Our room was on the third floor, at the front of the hotel. No complaints with that. It was clean, and had enough facilities to last us a night. The bathroom again was clean, but the suite could have done with an update. It was showing signs of age where the enamel was coming off the bath. The shower lacked pressure, and made showering difficult. Although we were told by other guests that those on the first floor had a brisk power shower. But their room itself wasn't as nice, with coving coming off of the ceiling and cracks on the wall.

The adjoining pub was quite dingy. A pub that faired well with a few locals, yet lacked the presence hotel guests.

The hotel staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly.
If you want a fairly cheap hotel for a nights' stay in Kilmarnock, then this will be up for the job. But don't expect luxury.

What a surprise, when we arrived with our coach party I wanted to cry...but...to my dissmay...we were greated by the young lady who is the general manager, she was very friendly and knowledgeable.
We were welcomed by a friendly receptionist and the inside of the hotel totally made up for the exterior!!!
The food was excellent and the staff, wow, they totally went out of their way to make our 5 night stay as enjoyable as possible.
We had been outboked and we were not looking forward to staying in aplace that did not have the views, but it was great and would reccomend it to anyone!!!
Thank you to the staff, they helped me as I am diabetic, they sought to my needs immediatele.

We had to make a last minute booking, within easy distance of Largs and identified the Howard Park as a good location - so booked unseen, first visual impression driving down the road - oh dear! HOWEVER .. once we stepped inside -fantastic, reception lovely, receptionist warm and professional, room very good standard, evening dinner - good staple scottish fayre, breakfast - again high standard, again the Restaurant staff were good. The only criticism - the bar prices were a little on the high side, but notwithstanding this The Howard Park is great value and a very pleasant surprise!

“Colditz from the Outside - Quality from the Inside!”

Howard Park Hotel

When you pull up outside the Howard Park Hotel you will wonder why on earth you booked in! The location (next to a petrol station, tescos and a row of fast food joints and a betting shop) is not pretty, and the outside of the building leaves a little to be desired.

However.

We stayed for 3 nights over the festive season and we had absolutely no problems whatsoever from the surrounding establishments. Don't take any notice of the rather bland exterior because once inside everything becomes better!

The reception, bar, restaurant and function rooms are all very good, the rooms are very comfortable and the whole place is clean and tidy with good service (a little dour some of the Scottish natives though, just wind them up - they soon smile!)

The food was excellent, presentation was good, and the all inclusive package with our local coach operator that we were on, was good value.

Book with confidence.

“Two night stay”

Howard Park Hotel

Sep 22, 2004

Two night stay in September 2004. Friendly welcome and nice newly decorated room.
Had dinner in the restaurant, the soup was obviously freshly prepared, and steak was cooked exactly to my liking. Staff and service very good.
Conference went to plan with bacon rolls and tea / coffee as requested.
I'll have no hesitation using the Howard Park Hotel again.
