We stayed at this hotel because of an in house organised event. Having already read the reviews prior to our nights’ stay we were prepared for the worst.
Yes from the outside it does look tired and shabby. We soon worked out where the supplied hotel photograph was taken from - a picture taken at a distance was the only way you could do this hotel some kind of justice.
The inside decor brought a welcomed sigh of relief. Our room was on the third floor, at the front of the hotel. No complaints with that. It was clean, and had enough facilities to last us a night. The bathroom again was clean, but the suite could have done with an update. It was showing signs of age where the enamel was coming off the bath. The shower lacked pressure, and made showering difficult. Although we were told by other guests that those on the first floor had a brisk power shower. But their room itself wasn't as nice, with coving coming off of the ceiling and cracks on the wall.
The adjoining pub was quite dingy. A pub that faired well with a few locals, yet lacked the presence hotel guests.
The hotel staff are pleasant, helpful and friendly.
If you want a fairly cheap hotel for a nights' stay in Kilmarnock, then this will be up for the job. But don't expect luxury.
