“great stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I booked the Muirloch executive lodge 5 for my husband's birthday for a 3 night stay. We couldn't have been more pleased when we arrived. As we would not arrive till after reception closed they left our keys in the bar for us along with directions to the lodge. The lights were left on for us and the lodge was spacious, clean and beautiful. Just a 6 mile trip into dundee centre. The hot tub was great, plenty space for 2 people and the outside table and chairs were a welcome addition. On our second morning there we had opened the door leading to the outside as it was a beautiful day and were visited by the ducks from the local lake who had no qualms about coming inside and saying hello, even letting us pet them which was fantastic! We ate at the hotel on the Saturday night and the food was excellent, the fillet steak was one of the largest and nicest we have ever had. I know people have complained about having to take everything you need with you, including dish soap, cloths and towels but it is a self catering lodge so I understood that we would need to bring essentials with us, which I didn't see as a problem. The only gripe I had was that checkout is 10am, which seems a bit early for having breakfast, cleaning up and packing everything but other than that it was well worth the money and we will definitely be going back for an extended stay.

When we arrived we were continually pawned off that our lodge wasn't ready, it would appear that everyone elses lodges was ready and we were the last. No apologies from reception. Also felt that the people of reception were robots and had no genuine concern for their customers.

We sat in the reception area for over an hour and we could almost recite their patter about credit card security swipe, electric cards, not to use hot tubs before 4pm and directions back to the lodges. Not once did we hear "We hope you enjoy your stay"

Our lodge, we do appreciate that it was self catering however i didn't think we would need to bring quite so many things with us. We had to go and purchase washing up liquid, dish cloth and more toilet rolls (1 roll in each bathroom). The tea towels in the lodge were disgusting! I wouldn't even have washed the floor with them. The bathrooms don't have bath mats (dangerous when getting out of the shower) or toileteries so remember to pack EVERYTHING you need. The towels are £10 per towel to hire (possibly cheaper heading to the nearest supermarket and buying for that price)

We went for a meal in the main building and couln't fault it however we had booked a table in the main restuartant and wasn't put into there we had the meal in the lounge. Prices were reasonable for food and drink so that was a bonus too. No faults there.

Other reviewers have commented on the door closing issues and the creaking floorboards but the main thing out of the 2 we had a issue with was the patio doors, there was a "nack" of getting them to lock!

Our biggest laugh was when we went to turn on the tv, spend ages trying and it turned out there was no batteries in the remote. Nor did the bedroom remotes! I seriously didn't think we would need to bring batteries with us. Luckily the living room tv managed to work with buttons on the side of the tv.

Piperdam have gone to great lengths to make the most beaufitul lodges however its being let down by so many things. The hot tub was our biggest success of the weekend. We loved it! Just had to move the steps as they were at a side of the hot tub that made us enter on a curved bit. We moved it round the corner to the bit where there was 2 steps in the hot tub.

I would "consider" booking here again but due to the price and the amount of things we would still need to bring I think we may look else where.

Second visit to Piper Dam. The large bungalow we all stayed in was spacious, but could do with a little bit of TLC. Accommodates 8 or more adults, who have use of the large kitchen and appliances. However only one small fridge is provided which makes things tricky when catering for that many people over a long weekend. Snooker/Wii game room are are great addition. Swimming/golf facilities are great (9 hole par three golf course is a National Course which the guy in the golf shop was mega proud of). You can fly fish off of the bank, but fishing the loch by boat isn't possible as their fly fishing guy was taken sick and hasn't been replaced (they don't mention this when you book or on the website). There is a Spa, but no treatments. It is a good place to stay for a weekend, but any longer you need to think about a few day trips, there are some lovely wee costal towns to see. The food at the restaurant was lovely, a very varied menu.

Just back from a weekend in a Forrester Executive lodge. Wow, everything you ever need is here. The lodge is beautiful, well furnished, clean and airy. The lodges are set in the woodlands with lots of outdoor space to suit everyone. The thrill of sitting in a hot tub on your balcony in May in Scotland is really special but to follow it with a sauna is magical.
A plentiful supply of towels, lashings of hot water and a kitchen with all mod cons is a bonus. The living space and bedrooms are beautifully appointed. The beds are made up for your arrival with crisp linens and are very comfortable.
The bar and restaurant give good value for money and again are of the same high standard as the lodges.
A great place for couples, families and groups. Plenty space for everyone. Idyllic.

Room Tip: Just book a lodge thats suits the number in your party, there will be space for everyone.

We've just returned from a short break at Piperdam and would highly recommend it! We stayed in a Rainbow Lodge, which was good quality and very pleasant. The kitchen was well equipped with a dishwasher, washer and tumble drier. The beds were very comfy and the whole place was very clean.
We ate at the restaurant and had a very nice meal with very good service, I'd recommend you try it.
We tried some of the activities on site - quad biking, crossbow and golf driving range. All were great fun and the instructors for the quad bikes and crossbow were really pleasant and helpful.
We used the pool a couple of times and this was ok, the steam room and sauna are a real bonus and are included in the free price for using the pool.
There is no shop on site but there are supermarkets within a few minutes drive.
We all enjoyed our stay at Piperdam and felt it was great value for money. The quality of the lodges and the facilities were quite amazing for the price we paid. If you want to visit Dundee don't hesitate to book up!

My family of 5 stayed in a 3 bed osprey lodge over the bank holiday weekend. The rooms were large and beds very comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped, with everything we needed for the few days that we stayed. There was a dishwasher, washing machine and dryer too - although we did not need them. A small veranda outside was just sufficient for eating outside.

We made use of the swimming pool several times and found it to be clean and a good size. The changing rooms were fine and the steam room and sauna excellent. We also had a couple of meals in the restaurant and found the food and service to be of a very good quality.

The only minor problem was the poor mobile (vodaphone, O2 and three) reception at the lodge and the limit of wifi just to the main building. Also, the TV reception was pretty poor in the lodge.

A more important issue was the fact that we had to buy cards for the electric meter - I understand that this is not required in all lodges, but it seemed a rather cheap aspect to the lodge hire.

Room Tip: Choose a lodge that does not require cards for the meter!

A group of Fourty something glamorous females travelled and stayed the weekend of the 17th May 2013 - we were apprehensive due to the extra cost as we usually go to Centre Parks but the Vegas lodge has the WOW! factor. Furnished to a high standard with loads of space we had a fantastic weekend.
Positives are : Sauna , Jacuzzi, patio doors to each bedroom, spotless, large well appointed rooms, large well stocked kitchen, loads of comfy leather sofas, washing machine and tumble. Two freezers, two double ovens.
Negatives: having to take your own towels -(they are provided at Centre parks for a lot less dosh paid out), no bath mat, no hairdryers,no mirror in bedroom over the socket - please note these are minor gripes only because of the cost of the lodge -and would be easily resolved by Piperdam resulting in NO negative comments being made at all.
The main entertainment area is small - we couldnt have lunch on Sat cos there was no space - how about letting people have the bar menu seated in the dining room area if its too busy?? they lost out on 11 people having lunch plus drinks.. profit lost!. Small gym and nice pool area, feel the sea scooters are a bit of a rip off as we all paid an ibndividual price then had to share two scooters between 8 of us- that being said we had a laugh and the staff member Jake was very friendly and helpful- hes due a wage rise!!
Tip: do an online tesco order and have it delivered - it saves humfing all your food with you!
We have booked again for next year cant wait!!

Room Tip: If you are no good with noise pick a room under the games room - the deafening from the living room...
