We took a 4 night mid week break to Piperdam last week which we found to be most relaxing. I was well aware of the stag partys that attend Piperdam but being there mid week had absolutely no issues with noise. We had our 9 month old baby girl with us and she slept like a log, as did we! On arrival, staff were very pleasant and gave us directions where to find our lodge with a few other helpful tips for our stay.
When we arrived in our cabin, an Osprey with hot tub, we put the baby down on the living room and then promptly picked her up again as the carpet clearly hadn't been hoovered for a while. Once I found the Hoover, I proceeded to put it together (was in bits in the cupboard) and hoovered the living room floor. As we had the baby, we were eating in the lodge every night which proved challenging as all the markings on the cooker controls were worn off. Eventually we worked out how to get the oven on (rather than grill) but had to wing it with the temperature, which is not ideal when cooking raw chicken. Come on Piperdam, at least put some markings on as to what's what. We looked through the drawer with manuals for one for the cooker, but was about the only one not there. Instructions for about 3 differrent toasters and other items which had obviously been changed out in the lodge some time ago. Wasn't just the cooker that the markings were missing from. The hot tub instructions advised only to use certain controls, but as all the markings had come off these we just had to use every button to get anything to work. The temp control on the fridge was also broken. We had taken a DVD to watch one night, but one of the batteries along with the cover of the remote was missing rendering it useless. Some of the dishes in the cupboards were found to be dirty, the colander looked as though it had just been put back in the cupboard un-washed.
There were no instructions for the boiler, and the thermostat in the living room did nothing. We had to switch the boiler off after we'd given it enough time to heat some water.
Something seemed to eat electric in the lodge. I can only guess it was the hot tub, as the jets seemed to come on and go off of their own accord. Used £10 of electric in 4 days which seems a lot to me.
We used the swimming pool on one occasion which we enjoyed, also with the benefit of the family changing area.
Overall we enjoyed our stay but paid a premium for what we got. Not sure whether we would return here or try somewhere else next time. Wouldn't say that the problems listed above ruined our stay, however, attention to the small details like these is something that Piperdam should seriously consider to ensure repeat customers.
