“Take the rough with the smooth...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2014

Stayed here for a fortnight a few months ago on buisness and, overall, I'd suggest you take the rough with the smooth. Disappointingly, there were a few occassions I was woken up by the noise outside - the traffic noise can be bad, but it's the din that comes from the all-night casino and all-night gym on either side of the hotel that really grated. Sleep was impossible on a few of the nights too - they call it 'The Partylodge' for good reason. The cleaning staff didn't fully clean the room on several occassions either (and, more than once, I don't think they even bothered). Still, the rooms were spacious and airy, and the bed was surprisingly comfortable considering its a budget hotel. No real qualms about the price considering it's location either: just a few streets away from Caird Hall, The McManus Gallaries and the Overgate, amongst other local sites of interest. It'll do for a night or two, but I wouldn't promise you sleep.

Room Tip: Try and get a room in the centre of the building, and if you're in a room looking onto the casin...

The big plus is that car parking is free, which for a city centre budget hotel is rare in my experience. This is a modernised Travelodge so the standard is good. The room was large, but because it was larger than usual, felt a little sparce. I read another review that said the area was run down, but that is only true at the back of the hotel. There was no shampoo in the shower dispenser, which I didn't realise until I got in!

The front of the hotel can be quite noisy as there are a couple of nightclubs nearby, so next time I am going to ask for a rear-facing room. All in all, I would go back, but with slightly lower expectations.

We asked members of reception staff for directions on two occasions, two separate but very close locations. Both times they didn't know!

Room Tip: Ask for a rear facing room, they are quieter.

Large room, clean and tidy. Great beds and pillows, great shower and lots of hot water. If you have a front facing room take industrial earplugs. Rooms at the back are better except for the seagulls!!!

advertised as central position but we considered it in back street area which felt very run down with lots of early morning through traffic noise. petrol station opposite our window. on the plus side it was only 10 mins walk to shopping centre and 15 mins to rail station.

My parents stayed here for 2 nights whilst visiting Dundee and were pretty disgusted with the place. Whilst the website advises that due to it's city location there may be some external noise, at no point does it make clear it is directly opposite one of the biggest nightclubs in Dundee.

The room was incredibly basic, more so than most hostels I've stayed in, with one chair to share between two people. It was clear that there had once been more furniture in the room but it had since been removed leaving the place bare and uncomfortable. Two teabags were provided in the room, so guests can choose whether they would like a cup of tea in the evening or morning, but not both. There was no temperature control that could be accessed by guests so my parents had to choose between opening the window and listening to the nightclub until 3am or closing it and overheating. The room felt so miserable that my parents did not want to go back there in the evenings and so after two nights they asked if they could stay on my sofa instead of returning to the hotel.

The only real positive to this hotel was that it is a very central location and so the city centre and attractions are walking distance.

Thank you for your review Archi-me. We are truly sorry to learn that your room did not meet with your expectations. Unfortunately, due to the location of the hotel it is also not always possible to fully reduce the noise that our guests might experience however we make every effort to minimise the noise that might be heard from outside the hotel by insulating the walls and providing double glazed windows. Furthermore, not all of our hotels have air conditioning, however a number of fans are available from reception on a first come first serve basis. We would like to take this opportunity to investigate the concerns that you have raised, please use the contact us button on our website to provide us with more information which will allow us to offer a resolution and indicate that you have left a TripAdvisor review.

We had room 104 over the May bank holiday.
I can not fault anything with the hotel and it's staff could not do enough to please, Chris was exceptionally nice.
The offer of a peaceful night's sleep is definitely incorrect,I did expect some road noise being in a city centre but not the amount we heard and what was hard to disguise was the noise of constant pounding of treadmills from the 24 hour gym next door. On mentioning this on our check out I was informed it had been reported in room 103 but never 104. take your earplugs

Room Tip: aim for a room away from the gym next door
