After booking I looked at the reviews and must admit to being a little unsure as to what to expect. What we got was a lovely 3 star hotel with free carpark and leisure centre- all included in very good rate. OK the hotel could do with a bit of an update but given the price we paid £70 for the room B&B I would not complain. Dinner was plentiful and of good standard with breakfast being of exceptional value. Full buffet with as much or as little as you wanted. Manager was visible and pleasant- think he was the manager anyway, very nice person who recognised our Aberdeen accent. Apart from dated decor this is a great stopover with bonus of free parking and lovely pool and suana ect. highly recommened

“Not relaxing”

Dundee Hotel

Jul 6, 2007

Our family stay at the Swallow Hotel Dundee was anything but relaxing. We couldn't eat at our time of choice in the restaurant due to a group of 80 guests dining at 7.30pm, no attempt was made to accomodate us or to apologise for us having to eat earlier than suited. The pool showers were broken and looked like they had been in decline for months, overheard 2 ladies who had clearly paid their gym memberships complaining and not being offered an alternative place to shower as the hotel was full. In the dining room we were seated at one table, asked to move to another and then informed that there was no childrens menu. However my eight year old could have a half portion of anything on the adult menu. I don't know why but she didn't fancy chicken stuffed with haggis in a whisky sauce. We chose to leave and dine elsewhere, couldn't face the bar on returning and headed for an early night. Woken at 10.45pm by the fire alarms going off which gave us an opportunity to meet all of the guests. Being with a very safety conscious 13year old i was one of the few people outside in PJ's and bare feet- most others were still fully dressed or had pulled on clothes. Some didn't leave there rooms at all but observed us from the windows. Only 2 staff were in the hotel and clearly their fire training had been somewhat limited.Fire crew advised they could not properly check hotel until it was totally evacuated this meant a long delay before being allowed back in. Very cold feet for me and my children. Uncomfortable night followed and woken by a member of staff entering room at 7am having been told it was vacant by reception.Decided to leave in the morning although had planned a 2 night stay. Opted not to take breakfast but looks like we might have missed the only decent bit reading other reviews. When I complained little apology was offered and the attitude seemed to be I wason the cheapest rate and should therefor accept the poorest service. Could have stayed in the Travelodge for half the price and had a more comfortable stay. The girl on reception was very pleasant but is clearly employed in a very poorly managed and organised hotel. I would never return.

“So Dis-appointed.”

We have just come back from an awful experience in this hotel.

We booked on line the night before, and on travelling 100 miles, we were told there was no booking. What happened was, although we could book in from 2pm , they hadn't bothered to check their fax machines for any incoming guests. Indeed our fax was there, but we were then told, we couldn't get the room we had booked as the hotel was busy. We had booked an EXECUTIVE double room , non smoking. What we were offered was a room with twin beds, but they could zip the beds together . We felt we had to take it, so we waitied another 10 mins, and after 50 mins of waiting we got to the room .
It was small, cramped and not nice. I called down to ask if this was an executive room to be told it was standard. I informed them i paid for executive. So they gave us a key for an executive one, so we were happy , until we got there . It was twin bedded. I was i tears by then. Eventually, after i complained i was told there were no rooms avail, as the hotel was busy, but i maintained they were happy to accept the booking. Eventually an EXPERIENCED person came along and upgradec us to the suite, at no extra cost as we had been so mucked about. THAT WAS FAB and we THANKED them.

Dinner was on a stained table cloth and when putting cutlery down from the starter, our main course was heapd on us. My hubby had lipstick on his glass, ( not his ) and breakfast was free or all. Stained table cloth again, cold plates for cooked breakfast, tea and coffee in flasks.

Staff ( mainly) couldn't care less, and we will never go back.
Be warned

I stayed here one night in November on business. I have driven past this hotel many times but this was my first stay.

The reception, greeting and room were excellent. It was a very cold night but the place was warm and comfortable.

I eat in the Restaurant at dinner and I really could no fault the food and the breakfast was first rate too.

The only slight imperfection was the receptionist on check out who I think had got out the wrong side of bed!

I only paid £75 DBB all in.

I would (and will) stay here again, very convenient as the main Aberdeen - Perth road is right outside.

“Ideal for a relaxing few days away!”

Dundee Hotel

Nov 5, 2006

After attending my brothers wedding, my partner and i had decided to get away for a few nights afterwards and had booked this hotel for 2nights DBB. We didnt want to travel too far from home or spend too much money.
It was reasonable what we paid for DBB and the hotel was lovely, the room was ideal and we made good use of the leisure facilities i.e swimming pool, spa bath and steam room. The hotel itself is in need of a little TLC and refurbishment. The grounds were beautiful and ideal for a relaxing walk around.
Dinner was in the al a carte restaurant which was lovely, menu was the same both nights. It was very busy on the Saturday nighty but quiet rest of time. The breakfast was very good.
The staff could have been more helpful and friendly , although i did read something about the hotel being bought over so i assume staff were anxious of this change.
The City of Dundee itself was a good 10min car journey away but taxi's were easy to hire.
Overall an enjoyable and relaxing break away.
