“Characterful but don't stay here if u want a uninterrupted nights sleep.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2013 via mobile

At the time of writing its 3am in the morning and some of the other guests are still up and talking loudly in the kitchen area directly below my room. I went down at 1.30 to let them know that their voices travel and things whitened down to a background murmer. The hostel warden shouldn't allow this culture of inconsideration for other guests to persist. I won't get the chance to tell her, not that I think she'll care much, since I'll be on the road to London in 2 hours time, long before the noisy revellers are up. Dreading the long solo drive back home tomorrow - tiredness kills.

Frankly this, no matter how good value accommodation is, is not acceptable.

Apart from the noisy guests, everything very nice and clean. I wonder how long it will stay looking nice. The shower is broken in my section and the shower holder in another bathroom I used is also broken.

Sadly I don't think the type of guest appreciates what a great hostel this could be.

Visited this hostel for a weekend recently in January 2013.

Pros: Central location, reasonably priced access to kitchen and dinning rooms

Cons: Very basic room, unhelpful staff (could not produce an invoice for me had to wait 24 hours!!) Bathroom down corridor was smallish.

Overall good for a short stay in a central position in Dundee.

Tips: Costa Coffee and McDonald's are around the corner for a hearty breakfast.

Room Tip: Ask for one facing into the court yard and away from the main street.

I was in private room which is really clean and cumfy. The shared bathroom is also clean and spacy. I was the only one to use that bathroom.
There were TV room, dining room and kitchen for you to cook and enjoy your meal.
The game room also provide the pool table, Play Station, guitars, and free wifi.
Location is in the heart of the city, 5 mins to Dundee rail station and bus station, 1 mins to shopping centre.

Room Tip: 20 pounds for a night in private room is worth!

An unplanned overnight stay in Dundee and the Tourist office's recommendation was this hostel. And it was just perfect. It sits in the hearth of the City Centre in an amazing old building (actually I think 2 interconnected buildings). It has an excellent selection of single/double/dorm/en suite/etc rooms, enough of common areas (reading, game and TV room, internet, kitchens/dining rooms). What I really liked about it is that the whole place is on 5 levels and looks like a labyrinth and you would certainly get lost if not for the excellent colourful signs in the corridors. It has a modern finish but the staircases and walls retained their Victorian(?) look and feel which gives the place a special character. An the very friendly reception staff gives it that extra plus!

Room Tip: My room was in the back looking over the rooftops which was quite nice!

I have stayed in a few hostels before but this one surpasses them all. Firstly, you could not get a more central location if you tried. It is right in the middle of the high street so everything is on your doorstep. The building is very old but has been restored beautifully, with lots of information on the walls about what it used to look like. A friend and I stayed in a private twin room without ensuite, but not having our own bathroom was not a problem at all as there are plenty of shared ones, all of which have hot showers and are spotlessly clean. And it's not just the bathrooms that were spotless, our room was too; and the communal areas get professionally cleaned very regularly. Overall if I was staying again in Dundee, I would not at all hesitate to book this hostel over a hotel, simply because I do not believe they could match the facilities, cleanliness and value this one offers.

Room Tip: Being on the high street, some noise may be heard at night, so try and book a room that doesn't...

I had been in the hostel with a groupe of students and we were pleased with it. It was quite in the centre of Dundeein a nice old buildung, so everything could be reached soon. The kitchen was big and well equipped, the bathrooms clean. The staff at the reception was always frieendly and helpful. There was a TV- and games room with some couches to chill out.
On the other side was the dining room very small and had just a few chairs. There were also no lockers at the rooms and some had problems with not working key cards. Although there were 2 computers with internet acces (1 pound for 0,5 hours), the wifi was very bad.
All in all we had a nice stay.

The buildings in which this hostel is located have been painstakingly restored resulting in modern facilities but retaining all of the character of the original buildings. Dotted around the interior are information boards telling the story of the building's past and its restoration which add to the charm of the place. You could spend hours just exploring this place.

Communal facilities are well kept with a TV room, games room, clean kitchen and cosy reading room. The internet is available on a couple of computers although you have to pay for this, otherwise the wi-fi is free.

We stayed in a double with en suite. Quite basic but this is a hostel after all. My gripes were size of the bed (on the small size) and the lack of anywhere (even shelves) to store toiletries in the bathroom. Little things which wouldn't cost them too much to fix but be a big improvement.

The location is excellent, right in the city centre and an easy walk from the railway station. Most of Dundee's attractions as well as the pubs, restaurants, shops and restaurant are also within easy walking distance. This does have one draw back in that it can be noisey at times through the noise from deliveries or late night revellers.

All in all a very good hostel, well worth staying in.
