“Not bad but could be better”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 9, 2009

I would just like to echo a lot of what has already been posted.
The Holiday Inn Express is a new hotel near to the waterfront and town centre
A good location, with ample nearby pay and display parking, which seems a problem to some people, but all of Dundee town seems to be pay and display, so the £5 for all day that the hotel do seems like a good deal
Our room 201, had no working ventilation fan in the bathroom, and absolutly STANK after cleaning, it would have been better with the fan !
The free WiFi available in the lounge is a good touch
The breakfast is good, for continental, with just about something for everyone, the free daily paper available as a pick up in the lounge was a nice touch as well .
We booked over the net and at £39 per night, you get what you pay for, although it would have been nice to know that a "standard" room was infact a twin and not a double.
Quite a good base for taking a look at the Fife Coast area, with stunning beaches nearby

Stayed one night in May on our way through Dundee - pretty standard HI Express fare; the rooms are basic but very clean and have excellent showers. Bed is comfortable, and the available wifi in the hotel lobby/bar area is nice.

The hotel is obviously very new, although the halls have a faint odor of wet locker room. We can only assume that that ventilation system isn't up to handling a hundred-some rooms running a hot shower. Our room was muggy and tropical after the two of us showered, and the little fan in the bathroom was no match for it. It was still very humid after an hour or so at breakfast, which is a bit worrisome.

Staff was very friendly and helpful, especially at giving directions when we got lost trying to find the parking ramp.

Not the hotel you want if you are looking for something romantic or elegant, but very serviceable and very comfortable for a quick stay.

A 3 night leisure stay on 2nd floor overlooking Tay bridge leaving car in convenient immediately adjacent car park (pretty cheap at £5 a day). This is a very good value hotel with a central location, decent facilities, good breakfast and helpful staff. I cannot understand a couple of other reviews which are negative about the breakfast and cleanliness. This was NOT our experence. Dundee has a lot going for it with the superb Discovery Point, a great Rep Theatre (we saw Peer Gynt and dined there), a good bar at the DCA, and some decent eateries. If you fancy the tweeness of St Andrews then it is just a 30 minute cheap bus trip away. We even enjoyed a fire alarm over breakfast and I must say that the staff were VERY efficient and professional which is very reasasuring. We would hapilly stay here again.
