“Perfect Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 2, 2013

Located in sight of the Tay Bridge this modern hotel is ideally situated for a day or night in Dundee. Very easy to find. friendly staff with a good level of service. Wifi available in lobby only, but it is free. Carparking is £6 a day in a council multi-storey next door, (make sure you keep your ticket to get out!) Breakfast is included and is pretty good. Staff were very helpful. 2 min walk to the shops and pubs in the city centre. 10 min walk to the railway station. Lots of places to eat nearby too. Only snag is I found the room a bit cold and the heating struggled to keep the room warm in cold weather. In conclusion, I would stay again.

Under normal circumstances I would not review an Hotel when I only stayed for 1 night, however given that the Holiday inn Express chain seems somewhat garnered to that marketplace then it seems appropriate in this case.

Situated right in the heart of the regenerated Docklands and with stunning views over the Tay Bridge first impressions were very positive.

Having pre-booked the receptionist quickly and efficiently checked us in, a very pleasant welcome and so far so good, having booked a standard room for myself and partner and having given them her details I kinda assumed a double bed would be the norm however it was 2 singles, had we been staying more than 1 night it would have been an issue, as would the state of the carpet in the bedroom (pretty grubby)

The Bathrooms have a clever feature whereby the door can either shut off the bathroom from the bedroom entirely or shut off the W.C. from the rest of the Bathroom.

Breakfast was as expected a hot buffet style not startling but adequate.

Overall it does exactly what one would expect from the Hotel

Room Tip: If you are staying on a weekend or public holiday the rooms at the front offer stunning views howeve...

Stayed here a few times and it doesn't seem to get any better. The service at the reception desk is dire and needs addressing sharpish. The breakfast facilities are average but adequate. Little bit pricier than other city hotels but the being city centre makes up for that. Close to train and bus stations and 2 minute walk to shops

This Hotel stands at the moment and for the foreseeable future right in front of a Major construction job on the approach to the Tay Road Bridge. The noise level in our room from 7.45am was horrendous. So forget a wee long lie.Hotel was the usual Holiday Inn Express nothing to write home about, had the Free breakfast been hot it would have wend down well.I asked about the noise levels in other rooms,I was told all the rooms were the same,so be warned. There is serious building work going on in Dundee, beware.

Room Tip: At this time, choose another hotel, away from the diggers.

Firstly, I'm an avid critic in hotels and stay in all type and brands of hotel. Mainly mine is for business so expectations are higher.

I politely informed the management on check out that defects in two rooms booked had occurred. Also, a matter arouse at breakfast time which I can't go into detail due to the nature of my work plus, equipment defects over looked at breakfast.

The general manager Graeme chooses to ignore complaints and chooses to "glam" the situation.

Lovely location, good proximity to the shops and business needs. Terrible management when things go wrong! I only hope you get hold of the guest relations manager as she is the only decent one.

Good luck on your stay!!!

Rooms clean & comfortable, a bit of road noise outside. The staff were very friendly but the hotel lacks any atmosphere. The breakfast is basic but good enough for the price paid. Parking is in a multi storey behind the hotel & you have to pay for this during daytime hours. Overall OK, clean, comfortable & affordable.

Room Tip: Not facing the street or on a high level.

Stayed two nights last week, unfortunately visiting Dundee following the sudden death of a young family member, after moving from the worst hotel in Dundee.
The HIE was refreshing, welcoming and friendly.
The staff aware we were staying following a bereavement were very supportive, empathetic, flexible and helped us in many ways
It meant a lot to myself and family and friends staying and I am writing to the manager and HIE head office to thank them.
The hotel was an ideal location, warm, clean and friendly. The reception lounge and bar area large and comfortable and the inclusive breakfast was varied enough and good quality for anyone's tastes
I highly recommend the hotel, the staff and excellent customer service, the setting and comfort / cleanliness of the room.
Thank you to the HIE staff team
