We stayed here to attend a wedding in a nearby location and this was one of the best places I have stayed, here and abroad. The setting is idyllic and would highly recommend for a couple nights stay. The room was spacious and clean with our own ensuite. Each bed had a memory foam mattress which added to the comfort. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and accomadated us with the coming and going at different hours to the wedding. Breakfast was great and very reasonable portions for the price of the accomadation! A relaxing, peaceful hotel..... just what we needed after living it up at a wedding :)

We stayed here on a Thursday night in Feb. Dinner B&B package. Hand on heart, the food and server were excellent, absolutely lovely dinner and the sausages at breakfast were fab.

The room was an odd mix (Room 6). Quite old fashioned decor, and very small shower. All extremely clean. BUT the best bit was a memory foam bed. We get the feeling that they are doing this place up slowly which is just fine.

We also went out in Moffat and the Black Bull main hotel bar is lovely too, friendly, and had live music.

While traveling from London to Edinburgh, my friend and I decided to take some time away from the cities and spend a few days in this tiny town called Moffat. We picked out Hartfell House as our accommodation, and did not regret our choice for a moment. This house is spacious and striking in appearance, yet quaint and entirely homely at the same time. The owners are absolutely lovely, and the food at the restaurant is exceptional- so much so that we kept returning to eat there rather that exploring what was on offer in the town. For those who like to explore the outdoors, Hartfell House in minutes away from stunning walks in the hills above the town. This place is perfect for anyone who wants to escape the fast pace of city life, and feel themselves relax completely.

This hotel is located just out of the centre of moffat, its up the hill, easy to find, gorgeous views from the hotel and what looks like some good walking although we didn't have time to rekky any of the nearby paths. (there is also a nature reserve just down the road towards the motorway). The hotel is beautiful and warm and clean and the family who own it are really friendly. Our room was gorgeous and warm, with loads of stuff for tea and coffee and hot chocolate which was a bonus. The evening meal menu looked gorgeous but we decided to head into moffat in the evening (which is only a 5 minute walk) but breakfast was really lovely and cooked to perfection. All in all a really good find and perfect for a wee break and you're only 5 minutes from the motorway. Perfect.

I have been going to the Limetree for a few years.
It's probably the best restaurant in Dumfries & Galloway offering rustic, flavoursome food at very reasonable prices.

The food is straightforward and unpretentious, the flavours big and bold and excellent local produce features highly.
Expect delicious Chowders, Pates and cured fish for starters, Beef, lamb or Duck for mains and more-ish chocolate brownie and seasonal fruit puddings/trifles and delicious ice-creams or sorbets. There's also usually a good cheeseboard for those with less of a sweet tooth.

On a personal note I really miss the cosy, intimacy of it's original location and it could be said that the dining room decor is a little old fashioned and the vibe a bit stuffy but once you taste the wonderful food everything else becomes unimportant.

Just had dinner after a recommendation from a friend. Warm welome, lovely dining room, friendly staff. Our meal as delicious, the chicken, bacon and beetroot salad was delicious, the lamb rump tender with tasty accompaniments and the prune pudding was light and rich at the same time. Wonderful.
