“A great place to stay”

Buccleuch Arms Hotel

A party of 12 of us broke up our journey to Edinburgh by staying at the Buccleuch on the 22nd Sept, what a superb decision it turned out to be. Everyone of us thoroughly enjoyed it, the food and service were a joy and the ambience in the dining room was perfect. All of these things contributed into turning an excellent evening into an unforgetable one. I must single out our waiter Richard for special praise, only a young man but he made his job look easy, that said the service was impeccable throughout. I would recommend it to anyone.

Pleasant Scottish hotel on main street of the lovely town of Moffat.
The choice of hotel was from reviews onTripadvisor, plus reading good food reviews. Also the town is an ideal stop over on the way up to or down from the Highlands, I think the towns hoteliers make good use of the situation.
However as stated before, the warm of the staff in this hotel is perhaps its greatest atribute along with the food. While a little overpriced, it is quality, and again the warmth of the staff makes it a very enjoyable meal. Breakfast was good and plentiful and again the waitress was a gem.
The room was clean(bathroom I will get to shortly), with everything you needed, but alittle on the plain and drab side. My husband found the bed terrible, it didn't seem to bother me though. Finally and certainly a first for me was the unwelcome deposit lurking at the bottom of the toilet, with no phone in the room and a reluctance from both of us to go and find someone, it was left to my husband to tackle the problem, as the cleaner hadn't wanted too! or had hoped it had sailed away! Not what you expect for £80 a night.
Would I stay again ....not sure.

We stayed at the Buccleuch Arms for one night on our way back up from holiday in England. I chose it based on their website and the reviews on Tripadvisor.
From the moment we arrived we were made extremely welcome by all of the very friendly staff. When you're travelling with a 21 month old child you appreciate when they are made welcome too and the staff couldn't have been nicer towards our daughter, so thanks from her too.
If you're looking for a modern purpose built hotel then this isn't it - but what you do get is the charm and character of an older building and staff that actually care about their guests.
Excellent food as well - not to mention the beer, or the malt whisky selection!

“Wonderful Staff, Great experience”

I satyed here for 1 night before a wedding at Auchen castle the next day.
the food was the highlight - the evening meals may look pricey but for what you get or spot-on. excellent food.
i turnes up a little late for breakfst after enjoying the hotel hospitality a little too much the previous night (was having such a good time!), but the chef agreed to to do me a full scottish breakfast, which he didn't need to, so cheers!

the staff are great, genuinly friendly and genuinly concerned that you enjoy your stay.

moffatt is a smashing little town with some great pubs, a good night out.

the weddding was up the road at Auchen castle, which is utterly revolting by comparison, be warned - avoid that venue at all costs, it's the pits and the staff must come from a different planet compared with the good folk at the Buccleuch.

Thanks folks.

A most enjoyable stay in a small hotel with big hotel standards. A traditional Scottish borders three star hotel with a main street location, comfortable bedrooms, and a friendly bar. What sets this hotel apart is the superb and imaginative menu and the "better than five star" service provided by well trained and motivated staff. Lots of nice touches including its own branded bottled water and superb breakfasts - the smoked salmon and scrambled egg " creation" is truly memorable.

The finest compliment that I can pay this hotel and its management is that I would go out of my way to stay there!
