A real find, only regret is that we could not stay longer. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable. The restaurant was outstanding as was the service, both at reception and in the pub. Breakfast was a treat as well, again with outstanding service.

We Stayed here over the heineken cup wknd 22 to 25 may 09. The food was way above the standard you would expect to find in a small town hotel like this. The room we were in was recently redecorated and had one of the most comfortable beds i have ever slept in and the decor was modern and tasteful.
The staff headed by Douglas McDavid could not have been more helpful and efficient.
Its located in the centre of Kirkcudbright (pronounced "kirkoobree") with beautiful walks all around by the harbour.
We also played the local golf course which was quite challenging and hilly but as we had such glorious weather we didnt mind loosing so many balls!
Our breakfast was a special treat every morning with a huge choice of everything from kippers to porridge to the full cooked breakfast with a slice of haggis!
Another really nice touch was a freshly made fruit smoothy to start with.
Always a good sign is the amoount of locals who use the restaurant and bar for meals out.
We will be back, thank you for a fab weekend. Colin and Janet, co Wicklow, Ireland.

Robert Burns stayed here.

If this isn't enough to get you here (as it wouldn't be for me), then the friendly staff and great location might be. It's a beautiful city to explore, and when you're done, it's great to come home to a comfortable room with an attentive staff and great food. I stayed there two nights during my ten-day holiday, and I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I'd definitely come back.

We stayed in a local guest house but had meals in the Selkirk Bistro on two nights over the May Spring bank holiday weekend (2009). Very good selection of meals, local produce, reasonable prices and excellent service. The food was a delight.
We ate there many years ago and things have really picked up - well done all the staff there - a delightful place to eat. Excellent staff!

We meandered into Kircudbright almost by accident at 3pm and were welcomed warmly and were offered the last available room. The room was clean spacious and well-appointed if a little old-fashioned. Breakfast and dinner were served with smiles and attention and the food was delicious, including very fresh fish beautifully but not pretentiously prepared. The manager/owner was attentive and helpful. The local beer was well-kept, if a little bland. The town is delightful with art shops and fishermen and street scenes reminiscent of Balamory!
