“So disappointing brig house bay holiday park”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2012

We holidayed here over the Easter period and what a disappointment. From the minute we arrived it was inattentive service we were met with. Two young girls on reception who were totally encaptured with socialising whilst on desk duties instead of meeting and greeting new arrivals. Most of the leisure facilities such as quad biking were unavailable ( one of the reasons we had booked the site having teenagers travelling with us). On asking why this was we were told not enough staff were available for this and none of them had the necessary training. The shower and toilet facilities were absolutely filthy and never did I see anybody attending them despite the fact the block was visible from our caravan! Thank god we have our own shower on board. The area itself and the situation of the park is beautiful however and the wild life stunning. The swimming pool was available but our 15 year olds needed an adult to swim with them if they were to be allowed to swim! ( club rules!!!). A very tired site which needs a thoroughly new pair of eyes to see it for what it is and make drastic changes. Never would I go back!

Tucked well away from traffic and with very clean facilities. We parked near the wildlife area and were treated to visits by Heron, Hare and Moor Hen! Could be busy in season with families encouraged but it was tranquil in September for us. Plenty of on site facilities for all.

This site is quite expensive when compared with Caravan Club Sites, but unfortunately does not meet their standards for cleanliness of toilet facilities - cleanliness or all working. Location is good, but individual pitches, whilst being roomy, provide any demarcation - some hedges or edging would be good. Swimming pool is always popular with youngsters but you need to supervise them. Lots of wildlife and site has environmental awards, local beach is great and there are lots of local walks available and local towns and villages to visit. Don't rely on computer access on site - wi-fi didn't work in 2011 and the engineer was working on it during our 2012 stay, too!

My husband and I camped here, the last 2 years (september weekend) with friends and had a fantastic time. Club house good for meals and beverages and shower blocks cleaned regularly. Overall, a very enjoyable break.

We spent a week here. Mixed weather starting with rain then heading to some great sunny days.

This was our first camping holiday. We had a great pitch with hook up. Price very reasonable.

Park for the kids is great and ours were there every day. Its well maintained and a great variety of activities.

Toilets and showers were almost always spotless. Cleaners seen regularly and obviously were trying to keep it nice. Lots of toilets. never waited for either a toilet or a shower. Always had hot water.

Wash up area also great. very clean and everything you could need.

Shop was fine. We tended to shop in local Tesco (about a 10 min drive). We did use the shop for rolls and papers and was perfect for this. Good range of small (cheap) sweet so the kids loved it.

Swimming pool was really dirty when we went in. The pool was cloudy. I popped my goggles on and saw many floating plasters and general yuk. The tiles felt dirty. no locks on a door and no toilet paper. Dont book the site for the pool.

Other points. Near the beach which is lovely. Great local attractions and nice places to eat. We had a great week.

We have just returned from Brighouse Bay and enjoyed ourselves immensely! A very well kept and place of natural beauty with a safe beach a stone's throw away. We were lucky with the weather and that helps, but plenty to do anyway. We hired a lodge for family of six. When I booked, the reception staff were friendly and helpful. This was the case on arrival too. There was a very relaxed atmosphere and yet a great effort is obviously made to ensure that facilities and grounds are maintained to a high standard. The pool was small but well maintained. Yes, there is a small charge but if it keeps standards high, why not? The club house serves snacks all day that are of a good standard and served with a smile!
Our lodge was a long way from facilities but you park your car in front so no problems. The views from our accommodation were incredible, overlooking the sea, hills and golf course. Wild flowers and shrubs surrounded us attracting wildlife a plenty.
Lodge facilities good, making life with four adults and two little ones easy. Decor becoming a little tired but did not detract from the holiday as care lavished in so many other directions.
Horse riding was fairly priced and supervised to high standards. Lovely trek with unbelievable views. Not golfers ourselves but a golfer's heaven I would guess, from a putting green to bigger courses.
The shop had what you needed for the stay with local fresh rolls sold daily. There is plenty to occupy you off site too, with the lovely and historical town of Kirkudbright close by. There is even a hands on chocolate making experience locally too.
We are regular visitors to bigger and more expensive holiday villages and are now sold on this exceptional place that is more beautiful, very welcoming and just as good, in very many ways.
We used to be keen campers and can only compare pitches to the best ones in France and Spain. They even have picnic tables dotted around.
A few points to consider and they are not criticisms.
Dogs allowed (all we saw, and they were many, on leads and well behaved) There could be problems with allergies. Our lodge had been properly cleaned and we have allergic people that had no problems.
The speed limit needs enforcing somehow. Speed bumps maybe? Certainly signs would be reminders.
Website and booking could be updated though not a problem.
All in all, a lovely seaside holiday that children appreciated and so did parents and grandparents!

Having stayed at the holiday park in the past we had no hesitation in returning for a weeks holiday from the 7th July to the 14th July. This time the only difference was we stayed in log cabin number 1 as opposed to a caravan as was the case previously.
We were fortunate with the weather and that helped make a difference especially with a 5 year old and a dog with us.
I could not fault the holiday park and whilst it may not be the cheapest the facilities are excellent and the park is spotless and free of dogs dirt despite dogs being allowed on the lead in the park.
The swimming pool was quiet and this was great for McKenzie and there was no time restrictions which he loved. The food in the clubhouse was of a good quality and was not too expensive. My son loved the putting green and at only £2 was good value and after a week he'd managed 8 holes in one so Tiger Woods watch out!!!. He also enjoyed going out horse riding and going out on his bike to the play park and he loved the freedom to play football and tennis on the many grass fields set up for tents. Hector the daft chocolate labrador also loved the many walks and especially getting the opportunity to go into the sea and the nearby woodland walks.
You have the beach just 2 minutes away and nearby you have the Cocoa Bean factory in Twynholm, Kikcudbright and also the Cream of Galloway Ice Cream experience also within 15 to 25 minutes away.
Brighouse Bay from the Ross family comes highly recommended and the customer service throughout was excellent and could not be faulted.
If I were to make 2 suggestions for areas for improvement it would be for the management to liaise with the council to look into recycling as I didn't see much evidence around the site The 2nd thing would be to spend money and upgrade the games room as I found it dated, damp and dark and not somewhere you'd want to spend too much time and isn,t a true reflection on keeping with the rest of the facilities.
We will be back and for people reading this give it a visit and I'm sure you won't leave disappointed.

Room Tip: For those with children of a very young age just be mindful of the log cabins beside the duck pond t...
