We stayed here for a week over New Year and had a absolutely lovely time....we were planning to do lots of walking, relaxing, visiting the pubs and eating....and we did all this in Gatehouse of Fleet. We stayed in a rented cottage just on the outskirts of the village with a 10 min walk to the nearest pub. Our cottage was beautiful (rented through Country Cottages called Brownhills East) very clean, nicely decorated and most importantly very warm! The owners left us to our own devices, and were very welcoming on arrival. The gardens were beautiful and seeing a red squirral every morning was just delightful. We spent New Years Eve in the Mansonic Arms pub...food was fantastic and the evening just brilliant. I would highly recommend the Mansonic Arms for drinking and eating.
