went to this hotel for sunday lunch after reading latesr review,i am afraid i cannot agree that its a true taste of scotland, set menu was a very reasonably priced.food was well presented but what i would discribe as superior pub standard. staff where competent.the hotel is very dated and tired in appearence.could do with a decorative make over.

on arrival we were met by the most friendly of staff, they were very helpful with a very good attitude. That evening we went for dinner in the restaraunt [a choice of two] i can only say the food was excellent with a good choice, the service was faultless all the staff smile and speak in a very friendly manner.
The room was clean and comfortable althought the decor was a little dated. The exterior of the hotel looked a little shabby but just goes to show never judge a book by its cover. I would definately return to this hotel.

“Very dissappointing”

Hard to know where to start, carpet in the bedroom looked like the night after a messy student party, horrible fishy smell throughout the hotel on one day, breakfast absolutely dire - they could not poach an egg even on the second attempt, chairs in dining room look like they have been thrown out of an old folks home. The only redeeming feature is its a lovely town, the staff are friendly (and there are lots of them) if hopelessly unmanaged. I would have complained to the manager but there wasnt one !

This hotel is simply not worth the rate they are charging.

Nothing about this hotel was particularly excellent. A disgusting greasy smell from the kitchen was coming into my room, and the television was very ancient. The decor was shabby and dated, and the breakfasts were nothing to shout about. It is one of the few hotels in Gatehouse-upon-fleet, so you may be destined to stay there anyway.

Superb three night stay at a very friendly hotel. En-suite room perfect with plenty of drink making facilities. Food truly excellent, full breakfasts served in a leisurely atmosphere. Evening dinner more like a banquet at very reasonable prices.Staff helpful at all times and very hospitable. Cannot recommend highly enough.
