“Lovely Dinner & Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

On a weekend away to a caravan park in Gatehouse of Fleet, decided to go out and sample a few of the local eating places. Had a lovely meal at the Ship Inn. Service was excellent & food brilliant. Did not have a starter but good choice. Had a main course & desert. We chose the Thai Curry & Braised Beef. Sampled both & they were just amazing. Desert was equally as good. Great choice & very reasonable. Good atmosphere and décor. Would highly recommend.

We had what I can only describe as a average meal here, nothing special, nothing out of the ordinary, although the Haggis, Tatties and Neeps starter were fine, the fish combo was poor with pieces of breaded fish (catering pack) into the deep fat fryer, with chips and a side accompaniment of veg, did not really enjoy this meal to be totally honest.

While staying in Gatehouse we enjoyed 2 meals at the Ship Inn, the food, service and ambience was excellent. A good choice of food and an altogether pleasant experience both times we ate there. We hope to visit Gatehouse again and will most definitely eat at the Ship.

I found this hotel on late rooms on google at 10pm as my day finished rather late,I was travelling from Stranraer to Carlisle...I was not sure what to expect as you cannot tell from a simple i phone picture......when I got inside I was amazed to see the inside, the attention to detail was great, the manager was spot on! the staff the same, the rooms where absolutely perfect, extremely clean and very very well thought out, great room, shower and amenities, it turns out the owner had recently refurbished it and it looks like he wanted the best of everything, I have stayed in some of the top hotels in London and can compare these rooms with them, I would go further to say I was even more comfortable here than some of them.......10 out of 10 to the person or persons who designed the rooms and decided nothing but the best will do.....If you are thinking of refurbishing a hotel or want some great ideas of how to do it right, i suggest you visit this hotel and send your staff her.........the breakfast was the cherry - on - the icing on the cake....I am sooooooo glad I found this hotel by chance and cannot wait to take my family here.....thank you all very much

Room Tip: I cannot think of a tip as it was all just right, especially the bathroom, the breakfast and the ser...

We booked for a new years eve meal, having eating here a couple if years back we thought the food would be fine. Wrong!!! The mains were okay nothing special but the starters were terrible. I had prawns with chilli oil dip which was infact tomato ketchup with peices of chilli cut on top. My husband had scallops with some cream poured over them, no favours what so ever! Won't be back! We ate at the selkirk arms ,kirkcubright 2 nights later and the food was lovely and about the same price.

This is the second time we have stayed here and the staff continue to be friendly and the room was clean and had everything we needed. The bed was firm but that suits me.Lovely and warm as it had been raining all day. Both the evening meal (Fish and Chips and fish pasta ) and the breakfast was excellent - plenty to eat and well cooked and served. My only criticism was that I had to lift the blind in the bathroom to open the window and the window frame was black with mould . I couldn't open the window either.

Room Tip: Just ask the friendly staff to show you a room to suit you, unless they are full and you are last to...
