I can not for the life of me believe that Emma and Robertson would give anyone a smelly room, avoid making small talk and give a distressed damsel's room away because she was five minutes late.
The Ferintosh is a very inviting place, partly due to the cozy rooms, but mostly because of the owners' service-mindedness and genuine desire to make you happy. This ability to knit bonds on a personal level while running a healthy business is something I have found lacking in many other establishments I have visited.
The rooms aren't exactly big, but spacious enough to accomodate two people. The beds are very comfy and have lots of pillows, if that's your thing. The decor is very Scottish and you'll find plenty of Robert Burns artifacts here and there. This may be kitchy for some – but hey, I'm a tourist and I've been treated worse by room decor. Actually, I found most of the stuff interesting.
Location-wise, Lover's Walk is great. The train station is very close, and it's a short walk to find pubs and shops.
Lovely Scottish breakfast. Had my first Haggis here, and it remains one of the best.
tl;dr great place, will stay there next time I visit Dumfries
