Whitecroft mansion is not far from Carrutherstown. Carrutherstown is just off the A75 at its junction with the B725. You need to know this if you are going there because nobody else does - including the hotel staff. They really really need to improve their arrival information. There is no sign whatsoever even at the road end. The building is an old Scottish mansion. The decoration inside could be quite authentic but is spoiled by an over abundance of what can only be described as tack. We stayed in the Marble Suite, which certainly lived up to its name. A peculiar mishmash of modern and fake French furniture. Much use of mirrors and a bizarre window from the bedroom into the bathroom. Television in the bedroom area is not visible from the sitting area and only from one side of the bed. No hotel information is provided in the room and the local area book provided was five years out of date. the room was cold for the first few hours of our stay.
The staff are very pleasant. Information is not readily forthcoming however.
The food was well cooked and presented but the quality of the base ingredients in an area famed for its produce was a little disappointing.

We just wanted to share with you our experience of visiting this lovely mansion in the country.
The grounds are very peaceful and tranquil, the hotel is beautiful and warming and the staff are friendly making you feel at home. and to top it all the food is top quality.
We spent three nights at the hotel and didn't want to come home.
This is definitely the hotel to come to for a romantic break away. All the rooms have been decorated of a high class, (We were shown around all the rooms, as we were curious to see what they were like) If you like the contemporary look, the Lindsay room, is the one for you. All rooms have been decorated with their own unique look.
We sat and drank wine in the evenings surronded by the perfect setting of roaring coal fires and romantic candles and then ate in the candlelit restaurant serving perfectly presented, and tasting food.
We would recommend this hotel to couples of all ages, whom appreciate getting away from it all.

we spent one night at whitecroft as a ruby wedding anniversary present to our parents and absolutely fell in love with the place.

we had 3 rooms booked all of which were unique and different in style and the decor was in keeping with the property.

Evening meal was superb and Steve and Diane were fantastic hosts. Diane went out of her way to make sure everything was ok, nothing was ever too much trouble

We are already planning our next stay and can't wait to go back!

My whole family stayed at Whitecroft for five weeks when we were between houses. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left , we were made to feel welcome and the service thoughout our stay was always excellent. The owners (Steven and Diane) made sure that we had everything we needed at all times and nothing was too much trouble. Having regularly stayed in Five Star hotels all over the world on business over the years, we preferred Whitecroft.

The rooms were great. Every one is different and they are all finished to a high standard including the en-suites. The rooms are not only different from eachother, but some are quite unusual and this all adds to the "Whitecroft Experience". I especially liked having a proper coffee machine in my room.

The cleaning staff were also great - always cheerful and polite and they kept everything spotlessly clean. Even their laundry service was excellent and very quick. The log fires throughout the house added to the overall ambience.

The hotel even provided a professional car valet service! This was very reasonably priced for hotel guests, so we had all our cars done on several occasions during our stay, which was very convenient.

The restaurant is not what you'd expect to find when you enter the hotel. It's like stepping back in time into a medieval castle! There's a suit of armour in the corner and lots of weapons bolted to the walls. It would be great for private parties etc. The food was always prepared to a high standard and we could order tea, coffee or drinks in the drawing room at any time of the day.

Steven and Diane made our stay very enjoyable, stress-free and they dealt with our every request professionally and always with a smile. For my family, staying at Whitecroft was like visiting friends in their mansion and having servants quietly running around in the background catering for our every whim! It was great fun and we didn't want to leave.
