“Accommodating and friendly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2013

Had to stay at this B&B a couple of times recently as I was visiting a friend in Dumfries Hospital. All the reviews on this site are right - the owners and staff of this family B&B are really friendly and are there to help with anything you ask for. Little single room was quite quirky and the bed seen better days but was ample for me and I slept extremely well. The towels are small but there is no problem asking for extra. Ample parking off road. Breakfast is cooked to order and you can also help yourself to cereals, fruit, juices etc. Kettle with the usual bits, a clock radio and a hairdryer and fridge in the rooms are a bonus. Glenlossie is on a main road, but don't let that put you off as it was so quiet at night. It's local to everywhere, supermarkets, town, the hospital (5 mins by car), and major roads in and out of Dumfries. What makes this little B&B a gem?........ the owners placing a can of spray in the entrance so guests could defrost their windscreens in the morning after a heavy frost. :-)

My wife and I had a two night stay at the Glenlossie on 22/23 November. It is located about a five minute brisk walk from the town centre The room, which was generously heated and very clean and tidy, contained a double and single bed restricting the amount of walkabout space to a minimum. In fact there was no chair and sitting was confined to the bed. The shower cubicle was large with plenty of room to move about, not a tiny thing that you need to get out of to turn around. The room had its own little fridge which was great for cooling the wine. Breakfast was fantastic, every diners need being catered for, ranging from fresh fruit, cereals, fruit juices to a full cooked breakfast with eggs of your own choice. Plenty to keep you going for the day. The owner, Graham and his staff were very friendly. We would visit again.

Great place to stay in dumfries, this is my second stay here. A warm friendly welcome from Graham, fabulous breakfasts, clean and tidy rooms, anything you need can be provided. Its only a short walk of five mins or so to the train station and to the town centre. Emphasis is on making all guests feel at home, and relaxed, with plenty of help from Graham in terms of local knowledge, if you need it in terms of getting about in D&G and the town itself, places to go, etc. love it here, my thanks to Graham and his staff for their fabulous hospitality. Highly recommended.

Comfortable cosy guest house, just how it should be.

We stayed here as part of a house hunting trip around Scotland and we were very pleased with it.

Glenlossie looks like a typical guest house and does not disappoint. Graham was our host and was very friendly and knowledgeable of the local area to assist us with our search.

The room was clean and tidy, it even had it's own fridge which was a bonus. The bed was huge and very comfortable.

The best bit was the breakfast. One of the best I've had. I would highly recommend this guest house :-)

Stayed at the Glenlossie at the end of August on an nostalgic return to Dumfries for my husband who was born here. We have had some breakfasts in our time but nothing compares to the one we got at this fantastic Guest House.

Rooms were brilliant, bed massive so comfi and shower room supberb. Staff so friendly too, not alot more that we can say except that we will definately visit again hopefully very soon.

Just had a lovely weekend at this B & B - Graham, the owner was very helpful and friendly, giving recommendations on places to eat, or possible trips to make in the local area. The room was clean and well maintained and had been converted from a twin to a double as we'd requested when booking. There wasn't the greatest amount of space on either side of the bed, but we'd got the last room, and Graham acknowledged it was a bit tight on space, but we managed! On the plus side, the shower cubicle in the bathroom is a decent size and the shower itself was lovely (once we'd sorted out the temperature!)
As all the other reviews confirm, the breakfast is excellent! You can place your order in advance, the night before, and specify a time when you want it, which is very useful if, like us on our first day, we had to be out early. Or, if you have more time to kill, you can choose from a wider menu when you come down - either way it's cooked fresh for you and, unlike bigger, posh-end hotels, it hasn't been left around under lamps for hours on end. Also putting "better" hotels to shame, the linen napkins in silver rings are a nice touch. If I would criticise anything, it's the habit of putting the spoon handles through the tea-cup handles - I missed it everytime, both in the bedroom and the dining room, and sent the spoon flying when I turned over the cup!!
One of the best aspects for us was that this establishment is dog friendly - it can still be a bit of a struggle finding places that are prepared to accept pets, but Graham has his own dog and is happy to accommodate 4 legged travelers!

We arrived to a very efficient but kindly welcome and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely room and ensuite facilities. All sorts of little extras had been thought of (Club biscuits, range of tea bags, soaps etc). Then there was a water machine and easy access to fresh milk. The breakfast was wonderful. Melon and strawberries to start with, and then the full works beautifully cooked and served in a friendly manner. It was a very comfortable stay. We even received excellent ideas on where to eat out, and where to head for a day out. Can't fault it and very reasonably priced too.
