“Great little hotel”

Huntingdon House Hotel

May 5, 2008

As all the other reviewers have said, what a lovely hotel this is. We only met with Terry but what a very nice person he is. We arrived a couple of hours before we were due to have checked in but it was no problem, the room was ready and he carried our case upstairs. The interior of the hotel is lovely, the room was nice and bright and clean. We were in Dumfries for a concert which wasn't due to start for a few hours, Terry suggested a drive along the Solway coast for something to do, which we did and took in the scenery.
We arrived back at the hotel very late after the concert, but there were no problems getting in, the keys given included the main front door.
We were up early next morning for our journey to the airport for our trip home, breakfast was ready for the time we had requested and very nice it was.
Would definately recommend this hotel to friends and family and hope one day to return.

Thank you.

The stay at Huntingdon House was the best hotel experience we have ever had, very impressive! The hotel owners provided an excellent level of service and even offered to run is into town to save us the taxi fare! The room was very well cleaned and maintained and had all the equipment you could possibly need including ironing board and free wi-fi access. Extras such as a shampoo/conditioner/shower gel dispenser in the shower cubicle showed that the owners of this hotel have gone the extra mile to ensure that their guests will return in future.

Terry and Lynne are very passionate about their business and we cannot praise them highly enough. We will DEFINITELY be staying at this hotel again!

Being on my first official "Lone Genealogical Venture", I flew from Florida to Britain railing to many cities, towns & villages where my ancestors had lived. One of my favourite places to stay was the Huntingdon Hotel. Beautifully decorated in Scottish style, lovely breakfasts cooked with TLC, modern comforts in an older traditional structure and of great importance, safe and clean as a whistle. Terry and Lynne were warm, friendly, accommodating hosts who made me feel like this was my place and that anything I wanted was mine for the asking. Situated very close to the railway station and to the town center, it was a most convenient walk to each. If I have the chance to repeat my adventure, I'd stay at Huntingdon House in a heartbeat! Terry and Lynne - it was great!

It was pure chance that I booked this Hotel for a weekend of mountain biking around the 7 Stanes. We were given a friendly welcome by Terry and shown to beautifully decorated rooms, all with ensuit facilities. The bar was very pleasant and the following days breakfasts were excellent. We were recomended a local resaurant to eat at that night and they even made the reservation for us as we were out cycling. As cyclists we needed secure parking for our bicyles. This was provided, plus a jet wash facility if we needed it. We enjoyed ourselves so much we will return in the very near future, but with a larger party, not just to enjoy the 7 Stanes cycling, but the excellent hospitality this hotel provides it guests!

I booked one night at this great little hotel for myself and two mates as we were visiting the area to ride the 7 Stanes mountain biking trails at Mabie and Ae forests close to Dumfries. First of all I would like to say that the Hotel owners are fantastic hosts and were very accomodating to three blokes with bikes and the potential for mud that this brings. Terry (owner) informed me upon booking that the hotel had secure storage for the bikes as well as a jet wash for cleaning them and a drying room for wet riding clothes. Very handy considering the limited facilities at the trails.
The Hotel itself has a huge car park and is an elegant detatched grand house only 2 minutes walk from the centre of town. It is in fantastic decorative order (recently refurbished in 2005 I think) and has a good size bar and breakfast room. The triple room we booked was excellent with 3 single beds, a bathroom with shower cubicle, sink and toilet, seperate closet area and a second toilet/washroom. Very comfortable for £90/nt. (£30p/p) inc Full cooked breakfast, which was also of very high standard.
In short if you are visiting the Dumfries and Galloway area you would struggle to find a better hotel than the Huntingdon House.
Ps: If you venture into Dumfries town centre and fancy some Chinese food then avoid the New Dragon restaurant. It was the worst Chinese I have ever had (think aromatic Duck with a crumble coating, sweet and sour pork balls containing mostly Pork fat and Chow mein with a fried egg on top in a pool of Bisto gravy. Nice!)
