“Very quirky tearoom with lovely home baking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

We spotted this tearoom on tripadvisor. It isn't far from town centre but a little tricky to find, however we were told that helpful signs are planned! This old school house also includes a beautiful shop selling local crafts; a hairdresser; a drama studio; a make-up artist etc. The tearoom is an old upstairs classroom with the menu chalked on the old blackboard! We just went for coffee, but everything seemed good value for money. There was the delicious smell of soup, and the cakes looked huge. We did share a tasty slice of lemon and poppy seed loaf, and, alongwith our 2 coffees, it cost about £5. Service was good, and the drinks were mug size. We liked the look of the afternoon tea - about £6. Would certainly return and would recommend a visit to locals and tourists alike.

“Go Early If You Want Soup!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

Having read reviews on TA. I decided to hunt out this place while visiting Dumfries for a few hours. It is out of the centre of town but handy if you are using the train station, about a ten minute walk as you head down into the centre. We arrived at 2pm, the cafe is upstairs and the building itself looked quiet, however when we opened the door, the cafe was very busy with only a table or two free. I agree with other reviewers, it's a quirky cafe nicely decked out. My daughter and I both fancied the soup (leek and potato/pea and ham) however they had sold the last few bowls just minutes before we arrivef :-( It was a rather cold day and what better then a bowl of hot soup to warm you up! My daughter ended up having beans on toast and we both had a cream tea (excellent value at £ 2.50 for a pot of tea and a cream scone. I have to say the fruit scone with luscious cream and jam was scrummy, our teapot was a bit leaky though ut was filled to the brim, so be careful while pouring! I don't come to Dumfries very often however I will certainly come back here and hopefully try the soup and one of the many lovely looking cakes. Oh I must mention the toilets downstairs in the building, 3 cubicles, each individually decorated, a very nice touch to the functional school style restrooms.

“Great cafe with good home made food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 3, 2013

Delicious home made soups with a choice of bread or oatcakes. Generous portions. The sandwiches, cakes, etc all looked good. The service was friendly & efficient. They are clearly doing a good job because it was very busy. Having said that, we waited less then 5 minutes for a table to become clear.
The room is small and they have packed a lot in. It can be noisy but it certainly has atmosphere.

It's good to see small businesses doing well and an old building being brought back to life.

“Nice lunch.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Nice place to go for lunch with friends but very busy so get there early. Very small venue with too few tables to cope with the demand. Lovely different home made soups & sandwiches. Surroundings a bit drab.
