“Perfect”

Cavens Country House Hotel

Mar 29, 2008

Booked last minute with hotel, £150 Dinner B&B.

Had Oswald suite which is one of the more expensive "estate" bedrooms. It had own sitting room with fantastic views of gardens. Very comfortable bed, huge bath with lots of hot water.

Staff were friendly not overpowering.

Dinner was excellent, 3 courses simple but good, & despite previous reviews wasn't rushed.

Big lounge with open fire, free internet access.

Breakfast, freshly cooked, was lovely.

Everywhere clean.

Very good value will definitely return

Cavens is a delightful country house hotel set in a peaceful and tranquil setting. The owner "Angus" and his staff are friendly and attentive.Dinner is of a good standard and breakfast is excellent. The only criticism is that dinner is a rushed affair with the intention of getting guests in and out of the dining room as quickly as possible!!

The hotel is in a beautiful location with nice views and peaceful, quiet surroundings.
We found the staff were excellent, nothing too much trouble. Our break was for only 4 nights, but the menu was not different each night. We had the same dishes twice. I am glad we were not there longer. This is the only complaint.
P.S. Do look out for the molehills on the lawn. They reappear every morning despite obvious efforts to keep them at bay!!

Stayed on a Sunday night on the way home from a wedding. Staff very friendly and the house is lovely. Had dinner and the food was excellent. A bit longer between courses would have been nice but that's the only criticism of our stay. Went for a walk round the gardens and surrounding area in the morning. Very pleasant.

We arrived at 1pm and was slightly bemused when the proprieter advised that we were a little early and that he expected us around 3pm (the sun sets at around 4pm) not much of the day left. However after being shown around the hotel and after seeing our room we knew we had made the right decision. The hotel bedroom are beautifully presented and each is individually furnished. The bed itself was to die for! it was huge and enveloped you like a cloud, in fact it was well worth getting back early in the evening to relax on it. The bathroom also was well appointed and very clean. The food is exceptional and I will return there as everything was well cooked and the menu was very different. coffe and liquers in the huge lounge after dinner meant you could either talk about the days events or chat to other guests if you so wished - the choice is all yours. The surrounding area is beautiful and well worth exploring and if you are a bird watcher - then this is your paradise. Dogs have to be placed in your vehicles whilst you are out of the hotel room (i.e. having dinner or breakfast) - but I can understand their reasoning and it is not too much of a problem. The hotel may appear to be a tad expensive but in my experience you get what you pay for and this hotel certainly delivers class and good food and extremely helpful and pleasant staff.
