“What an amazing Wedding venue!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2011

I had the most amazing wedding day, the venue, the staff and the grounds were fantastic! The staff were there to deal with our every need and nothing was too much trouble and I mean that! We stayed in the cadmuir and Kailzie suites and they were exceptional! The kids loved the grounds and our travelling guests could not believe the views, the fab weather helped of course! Would recommend Peebles Hydro for a fabulous wedding venue :o)

Just back from a weekend stay. BRILLIANT! Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. Excellent meals and what a room. Front facing with a spectacular view, 2 leather sofas, chocs, fruit, water, tea/coffee/hot chocolate, biscuits, massive bed, large bathroom with piping hot water, fluffy white towels, bath robes. What more could a girl want on her birthday. Husband enjoyed it so much he's taking me back. Yahoo!

We found the hotel had everything to offer us that we only visited Peebles one morning as we didn't feel the need to go elsewhere.

Glad to see that this hotel changed the menu for meals every evening and we couldn't fault the quality or choice on the menu. We could only manage a light lunch so we tried Lazells in the hotel. We decided to half a pizza between us and we were delighted as it was served on two plates, which makes a change as we normally get it whole and have to fuss around swapping half on to another plate.

Thanks to all staff who contributed to the enjoyment of our stay. We were made to feel at ease and welcome, not the way some high class, big chain, hotels make you feel.

Management Note: Please keep up the good work.

It's just wonderful, what more can I say. Took two young grandchildren with us. If taking children, make sure Dave will be there - for you and the children! Got another visit booked, can't wait. Anne Ursell

What a fabulous time we had. Rooms are clean and I found it very quiet. Great place for families as loads for them to do and I can honestly say that we were not bothered by noisy or misbehaving children at any time. I cannot praise the staff enough - all of whom were friendly, helpful and more than happy to see to odd requests! The food the first night was not that fantastic but the second night was a vast improvement (different chef?....) The spa ladies were absolutely wonderful too and the hot stone massage was out of this world (thanks again!). Definitely recommended to all ages, solitary travellers or families.

Having stayed at Peebles every Easter for about 20 years, it's fair to say that the hotel holds somewhat of a special place in my heart - but I'll try to be unbiased in this review!

The main thing wrong with this hotel is that it has such a glorious history and has been enchanting guests for so many years, which has unsurprinsingly led to some bits of the hotel being a bit dated, whilst others have been modernised. In general, the public parts of the hotel have been refurbished in recent years, whilst the bedrooms have not, although one assumes that the management will get round to it when time/money permits.

However, I have no issue with the rooms being a bit dated, as with such a wide range of activities on offer in and around the hotel, the time spent in your room tends to be limited. An 'activity programme' is always in place for the Easter weekend, and includes things such as tennis tournaments, quizzes and guided walks. All this is very enjoyable, but even without it there are 3 main reasons why a stay in this hotel would be so enjoyable: the staff, the surrounding area, and the food.
The staff are always wonderfully helpful and will go out of their way to help you, and it's great seeing so many of the same faces year after year.
The local area is outstandingly beautiful, and there are so many walks to enjoy (weather permitting!), and the view from the hotel is gorgeous.
And the food - well, what can I say? It's plentiful, and it's good! Always a wide range of choices, and staff always ready to help if you need small tweaks made to meals (dairy intolerance etc).

The leisure facilities are also good, with a lovely pool/gym area, and a fantastic beauty salon. The putting green, tennis courts and pitch and putt course have all seen slightly better days, but are all still eminently useable, and great to use when the weather is good. When it's not good (this is Scotland after all!) there are plenty of activities indoors to keep you occupied, including a very well stocked bar :)

We booked Peebles Hydro, because of what was on offer for children over Easter and we were not disappointed, the kids club is great with friendly staff and lots of activities to keep the kids occupied. Breakfast and dinner is included in your stay and it allows you to head away from the hotel to explore nearby tourist attraction and grab some lunch. We really enjoyed all the family activities, such as quick cricket, football, prize bingo etc. Yes it is a bit cheesy, but if you like to get involved it is really good fun. The fantastic child care means you can have a lovely relaxed dinner in the dining room without the little ones (which is great) or wander along to the the cocktail bar for a drink after dinner. There is a huge choice of different whiskies which my other half enjoyed sampling. The food and the service at breakfast and dinner was very prompt attentive and friendly, every member of staff we dealt with in the hotel went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The only negative I could find was the room wasn't decorated in a modern trendy way. To be honest on a family holiday, we didn't really care. It was large, spotlessly clean and we had a t.v. and tea and coffee making facilities, we spent so little time in the room it didn't really matter that the curtains were a bit dated.

Weather prompted us to travel South, we would normaly look for somewhere North for a break. Our two night stay was excellent, the room was warm, comfortable and clean. The food was good, the breakfast was excellent, although Dinner was a bit hit and miss. The friendly, helpful staff were faultless. We used the leisure facilities, the assistant at the leisure centre was very helpful, she allowed us a preview of the facilties, although late in the day and possibly after her finish time. This was appreciated and we visited the centre on the next day. We were advised that dress should be "smart but casual" for dinner, this was not adhered to and several gentlemen were in the cocktail bar with jeans and trainers, if you set the standards, you have to apply them..The weather was horrible, but the staff were all very upbeat. There was a young lady carrying out painting and decorating work within the hotel, she was making a great job and was very polite and helpful, a credit to herself and the younger generation. We both enjoyed our two night break and would hope to go back again when the weather is a bit nicer.

Thank you for a great review. We are delighted you enjoyed your stay despite the horrible weather, and pleased to hear that you enjoyed chatting to our award winning young lady decorator. Sadly, Dress Codes are becoming an ever more controversial subject. Some guests like to dress formally for the evening, but more and more don't. We try to tread a middle path by asking guests to do so, but not making them feel unwelcome if they choose not to. Designer jeans and trainers can also confuse the issue somewhat!
