“New Year 2012/2013”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 6, 2013

Our long journey to Cringletie for New Year was more than worth it. We had Niedpath room and we were aware of the shower problems, management intend to fix it in the period of closure in January.
We managed with it as the rest of the room was great, the hotel and staff were really friendly and gave excellent service at all times. The food was michelin star standard and each meal was as good as the last. We had Scottish dancing on New Years eve and a traditional piper at midnight, all we'd hoped for spending Hogmany in Scotland.
The whole weekend felt like being at a house party with lots of other people to chat to, yet space alone if you wanted, in a warm friendly atmosphere.
High praise to management and all staff for a great Scottish Hogmany with amazing food, continue the standard ( but please fix that shower for perfection and need biscuits on the room tea tray )
Hope to return in the future and would recommend to anyone visiting Peebles.

Dear Guest, thank you very much for your respond and in particular I am very grateful for your understanding about our problems with the Neidpath Shower. We are currently closed for Maintenance and are working with our Master Plumber to resolve this issue. I will keep you posted about our progress, it should not be more than a week away or so.

We held our wedding here just before Christmas 2012 and do not have anything but good things to say about the Cringletie. We initially met with the owners in early 2012 who were lovely people, and opened the venue especially for us to have a look around (it was shut for an annual post Christmas and NY holiday at the time). From that point onwards we worked with Vivienne (runs the venue on their behalf), who went well over and above what we expected in terms of how she supported us in organising our big day with ideas and from a more practical angle. The day itself was superb as both we and any of our guests would testify – a large part of which was down to the fantastic surroundings of the building itself, the excellent food (noted by many as the best they had experienced at any wedding), and most of all the service provided by the fantastically warm hotel staff, who combine and ability to look after and positively spoil their guests without being in any way obtrusive. Note also the bedrooms and gardens are very well appointed having toured the entire venue and grounds prior to booking. We did of course visit the venue numerous times in the lead up to the day itself, both spending time there and eating from the ala carte menu (food has always been fantastic) – based on the hotel in its regular ‘non wedding’ state we would recommend it as a fantastic place to spend time within its confines, or as a base to get out and about in the surrounding countryside. To conclude we really cannot recommend the Cringletie highly enough!

Room Tip: The suites are well worth the extra outlay should you want to treat yourselves.

As a respite from the Christmas preparations we took advantage of the 'Tasty Sunday' package - seven course dinner, with specially chosen wines, and an overnight stay. We were taken to our room (Neidpath) which was large and very comfortable. We however had problems with the shower (a known problem in this room I have since read!) I was fully soaped and shampooing when the water went off completely. One call to management and we were immediately given keys to another room, with the option of packing up and moving or staying put and just using the bathroom, we chose to move. The problem although annoying and disruptive to us was solved in an efficient and timely manner. Regrettably we did not enjoy dinner as much expected. While the food was tasty enough nothing reached the heights of excellence that I remember from the chefs 'Horseshoe' days. I personally found the portions to be too small, and every course served was barely warm. Although the staff were all charming and eager to please. I found the dining room lacking in atmosphere or ambience, no one daring to speak above a whisper.

Room Tip: Try to avoid Neidpath

How can this place receive anything but excellent reviews. My wife and I wanted a special pre Christmas stop over en route to Edinburgh and we web searched to find a country house hotel with warmth, ambience, great rooms, excellent food and a special experience. We certainly found this at Cringletie House. A lovely old house set in acres of beautiful countryside and complete with welcoming staff and roaring log fires. All staff were excellent and we were made to feel very welcome as a guest not just another paying customer. The dining room staff particularly helped us to enjoy the experience by their explanation and knowledge of the food and wines- it's great when someone loves their job and shares their passion enthusiastically. We have been fortunate to have dined at Raymond Blanc's , Le Manoir and thought that we would never experience such food and standard of service anywhere else. Cringletie came very close to changing that view. Our room was warm and had all that we wanted. We have recommended Cringletie to everone we have met since and will continue to do so. Return visit- definitely hope so.

Room Tip: Go for a Luxury Room- a bit more space and lovely views

This is by far the best hotel I have frequented in Scotland. My family and I spent Christmas day at the hotel and it did not feel like a hotel at all. It felt like a home from home, made special by the lively and delightful owner, Viv, her staff and their beautiful Scottish hospitality. We ate simple and elegant Scottish food, drank fine tasting wine, enjoyed the warmth of the fireplace, and to round it all of enjoyed a game of chess with the most delicious mulled wine. I will be booking for next Christmas, if not before! Thank you all at the Cringletie and I look forward to the next time.

Stayed here on 12/12/12 on the special December deal on their website. Lovely building set off the road in a tranquil environment. The room was very comfortable and clean, but perhaps not quite up to luxury standard, however perfectly acceptable. The highlight was the seven course taster dinner, with each course accompanied by a different wine, quality and service were excellent.
Pleasant grounds for a stroll to burn off the calories. Would highly recommend this hotel, so give it a try.

Room Tip: Go for the rooms with turrets.

Set in a beautiful location a couple of miles outside Peebles, Charming Cringletie House does not disappoint. This charming baronial home features grand reception rooms with burning log fires. A magnificent first floor dining room serves fine cuisine and provides wonderful elevated views of the grounds. Our bedroom (Melrose) was large and incorporated a four poster bed. My wife and i had room service! no not food, but in-room Spa treatments, a full body massage for each of us. I must say it was very relaxing and reasonably priced compared to other hotels
If you have time try to do one of the recommended walks around the estate, well worth it.
