“Not just for the posh dinners”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We stopped here for lunch on the way south at the end of a holiday, and it's a great place to spend some time people-watching and relaxing. The beer is well-kept and well chosen. Of the two pubs in the 2012 CAMRA guide, this is the one to go for (the other one has changed hands). A good test of a pub or restaurant is that they take as much care and attention over their sandwiches as they do on their high-ticket dinners. Burt's passed that test. Their steak and caramelised onion baguette used tender medium-rare steak and plenty of sweet onions. Pleasant staff, especially the very Scottish host (was this NIck Henderson?), who was a good-humoured soul. The decor, especially in the loos, is a step back in time in a good way (clean and in good repair). But they're up with the times in a good way as well: the automatic towel dispenser is a delight and they have Wifi.

“Burt's Hotel, Melrose”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 4, 2013

Set in the ancient Market Square at Melrose, with ample car parking in the hotel grounds this hotel is an excellent base to explore the Scottish Borders. Food is excellent and the accommodation is very good. The staff are helpful and will go out of their way to assist residents.

“Top notch nosh”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

Everything on the menu is good, some great and one or two dishes excellent. Venison casserole is superb, wash it down with a pint of Game Bird, the outstanding locally brewed ale.

Nicks picks from the wine list are never a disappointment.

“Wonderful food at a decent price”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2013

This hotel saved our 3 day trip from being a flop as the food where we were staying was disappointing. We came here 2 evenings and had lovely meals, and very good gluten free cooking.
We were shown the refurbished bedrooms and they were very stylish and gorgeous. This is where we would stay if returning to Melrose!
