Hotel staff are very the friendly. The atomosphere is relaxed and the rooms are spacious. Old-fashioned but a good choice of place to stay in Melrose as it is not as expensive as most of the hotels there. Beds were very comfortable and good breakfast.

My friend and I stayed here for one night in 2 single rooms, as we had an appointment in Galashiels. The hotel was acceptable as far as accommodation goes at £45 per night B&B, but the breakfast scenario was diabolical. We sat at a table and were brought toast and tea. Then we waited.....and waited! No-one came to take our breakfast order. Then we noticed another guest approach a shoddy looking hostess type trolley, and wait for a "server". Eventually he was served some food from this trolley contraption ( like a hot plate with lamps above it to keep food hot) I noticed the lamps weren't the usual industrial type, just domestic bulbs. So I then went to ask for some food, however the serving person seemed to be more interested in talking to another staff member; eventually I had to demand some service! I got my eggs, bacon etc and went to eat it.....STONE COLD! It wasn't worth complaining as frankly, the staff were too self-indulgent, totally indifferent and rude, and we just wanted to get the hell out of there and eat elsewhere.

We stayed 2 nights in order to attend a wedding in Jedburgh. The hotel was very much typical of its type - rather old-fashioned, with most of the carpets in need of a replacement. However, it was comfortable (although the bed was a bit hard and unpadded) and the meal (in the bar) was of a good standard. I'd recommend the 80/- ale!

Breakfast (Full English) was included in the price of £65 per night for 2 people.

So - not the heights of luxury, but perfectly comfortable and fully acceptable.

People with disabilities should note that there's no lift (at least, none that's obvious) and the accommodation is reached via stairs.
