Stayed at the Oban Bay Hotel as part of a 65th birthday party, Aug 8-10th. From the moment we arrived at the hotel until our departure, the hotel staff could not have done more to make this trip one to remember. The hotel itself was in an ideal location and the views from the lounge and hot tub were amazing! Simply breathtaking! The hot tub experience was fab, as for people complaining about that, maybe the Ritz is where they should stay next time!! The views were unreal, the only let down was no champagne in our hands and the weather but can we blame the hotel for that?? NO!! The dining experience was pleasant and efficient. The waitress with the red hair (Sorry don't know your name) was particularly friendly and nothing was too much to ask. The rooms were comfortable, very clean and cosy, all you can need for a short break. Reception staff catered for our every need, from start to finish and even gave us a room for pre dinner drinks and canapes as we were quite a large party!
Overall we had a wonderful stay and we would like to thank all the staff at the hotel for going out of their way to make this occasion a very memorable one. Thankyou!! We may return, beware!

We booked this for 3 nights on a special rate, to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary.
The first room we were in, on the ground floor at the very back of the hotel, was slightly under the road level and a car was parked right outside the window. The room was very small, with a sloping wall, and felt very claustrophobic. We requested a change to a different room the next morning, and this was done with no problem, and the porter moved our bags for us. Our second room had a sea view, was large, bright and airy, so we were very pleased with it.
The staff were all lovely and very helpful, but I would have preferred if they had worn name badges so I could call them by their name.
The food was good, table d'hote menu changed nightly. I would have preferred to have a breakfast buffet though, I can't remember when I was last in a hotel where you had plate service for breakfast.
We were pleased there was free wireless internet throughout the hotel, weren't expecting it. It was most handy to check the weather to plan our trip over to Iona.
Highlight of the break was the hot-tub - we sat in there for ages on the afternoon of our anniversary, in the rain, watching Oban bay!

The hotel staff for the most part was very friendly with the exception of one desk clerk who was very condescending and more interested in talking with someone on her mobile phone than answering questions about spa services.

The twin room I shared was nicely appointed and the beds were comfortable, but the bathroom had a mold infestation that would make a good science project. The wall next to the wc was black with it as was the grout in the tub. The smell of the mold was also apparant in the wallboards between the tub and bedroom. Be sure to check the bathroom, before you unpack.

We used the hot tub. It was warm at best and had a timer on it that gave a short burst of bubbles and then a 3-4 minute wait time for the next burst. The view from the was great, however.

The conservatory is lovely and comfy, but unless you want to eat a full meal in the hotel restaurant, there is no way to get a light snack in the evening. The bar served only in the afternoon and it is a bit of a walk to the nearest pub which served food. A breakfast buffet would also have been welcome.

We are on a 10 day driving tour of Scotland (from the USA...first trip) Stirling to Oban to Inverness to Aberdeen to Edinburgh. Stayed two nights at the Oban Bay Hotel. Staff friendly, helpful and professional. Hotel bar views of the bay are beautiful....breakfast very nice. We were disappointed with two things: 1. no on site parking....did not know parking had to be reserved in advance. We arrived very late the first night and had to park a considerable distance from the hotel.
2. Hotel site said the accommodations had recently been updated but the appearance of the carpets, etc. showed alot of public use...
However, our stay was a nice one in Oban.
