Arrived at the Columba for a 2 night stay on Good Friday. Looks decrepid from outside, but they have started renovating the rooms, and ours (102) had been refurbished with modern bedding and HD TV on the wall. Unfortunately, that was the last of the good news.
Getting out of the shower in the refurbished bathroom is a major operation, and you have to exit next to the heated towel rail. Needless to say, 3 inch burn to my arm. Went to report it to the Hotel, who could not find the accident report book when I asked to make an entry. They admitted that this had happened before, so I would suggest sacking their interior designers. No offer of first aider and no ice packs available!
Breakfast on Easter Sunday was poor as had been eaten by one of the bus parties. Yes, there was cooked food left at the buffet, but had run out of eggs that were not replaced. No pastries or croissants left as all eaten by the coach party, and none kept in reserve despite there still being an hour left in breakfast service.
Finally, we paid for a seaview, and got a lovely one, until the Isle of Mull Ferry decided to park at the quayside at 8pm for the night. Haven't got a problem with that as it was still a seaview, but when it started its engines at 5-30am our room vibrated until 6-30 when it sailed to the ramp on the other side of the harbour! Again the receptionist said that this had been happening recently.
All in all, it may be nice after it is refurbished, but certainly not impressed with the customer service. Full price charged, no discount offered, and no apology for the injury or inconvenience.
