“Warm and welcoming, excellent B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

On our drive from Ayr to Inverness, we enjoyed a two-night stay at Kilchrenan House, a charming Victorian overlooking the esplanade. Colin and Frances made us feel right at home, offering ideas of what to do and where to eat in Oban and a welcoming dram of whiskey in the front parlor each evening. Room 6 was furnished in a contemporary style with two windows, front and side, offering views of the harbor channel and neighboring islands. The modern en suite bathroom contained shower but no tub, fine with us although the two steps down to bathroom might be of concern for some. Breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold choices, and the staff very attentive. Would definitely stay again!

We arrived in Oban after a long car journey, it was raining and it was windy. We've been welcomed with a smile and a lot of kindness... I would really thank the owners for the wonderful stay, the reccomandation for dinner and also for suggestion for the rest of our journey towards Skye Isle. I would reccomend this guest house to everybody!

We showed up at this B&B after promptly leaving another location that was unacceptable. The Kilchrenan took us in even though we didn't have a booking. Everyone was friendly and very happy to help with suggestions on things to do and places to eat. The cooked breakfast was good even if it was early for a Saturday.

We stayed at Kilchrenan House B&B last June and can highly recommend it. The owners definitely go the extra mile for you to enjoy your stay. I would recommend staying off the top floor, which was all that was available when we went. It had an awkward shower arrangement, which we were fully aware of before we booked. If one of your party is tall, it is somewhat challenging. Get a sea view on one of the other floors. The views are stunning. We arrived very late, after 9 PM owing to our scheduled flight from Islay to Connel being cancelled due to weather on Islay. We had to take the ferry to Kennacraig and a bus up to Oban. What was supposed to be a 20 min flight turned into an all day event. When we arrived worn out from our travels, we were informed that restaurants would all be closed, but the owner saved the day and put together a nice wee platter of sandwiches and snacks for us so we wouldn't parish. The breakfasts each day were something to look forward to.

We stayed at the Kilchrennan for our honeymoon, and had a very comfortable stay. We were welcomed with a warm greeting from Frances and champagne, chocolates and a personal message of congratulations on our wedding, which was such a kind gesture.

The views from our room were fantastic - the room was bright and airy and looked straight out onto the esplanade. The decor of our room was fabulous aswell.

Highly reccommended, and apologies for such a late review! (I completely forgot).

Room Tip: Bedroom 5 has a beautiful en suite bathroom and fantastic views.

This review is 6 months late, but I want to thank you very much. My parents came to stay for 4 nights in July 2012. My brothers and I booked it as a surprise for my Dad's 60th Birthday. I love Oban, but had not stayed at Kilchrenan House, but the reviews on here seemed positive and the building looked lovely.

Mum and Dad said we couldn't have chosen a better place (Mum is not the easiest to please at times so well done!), your warmth and hospitality were appreciated by both, the location was perfect - close to the centre but not surrounded by noise, food was lovely and local knowledge helped guide them in the right direction.

We will be in touch in the next month as I intend to visit with my boyfriend and Mum and Dad at Spring Bank.

Thank You again Kilchrenan House, my brothers and I couldn't have asked for more - really excellent value :-)

In September of 2012 we coordinated with relatives (from Canada) (we are from U.S.A.) to meet in Oban for the start of a Scotland / Italy vacation. They stayed in room 5 and we were in room 9. Both rooms have beautiful Ocean views and were quite comfortable. We were made to feel at home by our pleasant host Colin and Frances, they were very accommodating and pleasant to be around. We enjoyed the wonderful Scottish breakfast and all the staff were friendly and helpful.
Thank you Colin and Frances for a pleasant stay.We will definitely recommend the Kilchrenan House B & B for a relaxing and pleasant stay.
