We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The room we booked was at the back of the hotel, away from the street and other rooms, and relatively quiet. The room was clean and comfortable. The king-size mattress however was clearly damaged, with a large dip in the right side. We asked to be moved after the first night, and apart from being assured by the desk clerk that all their mattresses were "new", we were eventually moved to another room at the front of the hotel. The new room had a much better super-king mattress, but was relatively noisy due to being directly above the public bar and looking out on the main street. Headroom in the shower was also very limited in this room due to the bathroom floor being a couple of feet higher than the floor of the room (there are a couple of steps inside the bathroom). I'm 6'1" and I only just managed to get my head under the shower head without touching the ceiling! There was also a lot of building work going on outside during our stay, but this was obviously not the fault of the hotel.

The hotel restaurant can be easily recommended. There are a couple of other places to eat in the town, but the food at the George is up there with the best gastro-pub cuisine. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of the breakfast, which was mediocre at best.

This is a classic 18th century Georgian hotel overlooking the main street of one of the finest planned towns in Britain and still very reasonably priced. The master rooms are huge and sumptuously decorated with original floors, antiques, paintings and sash windows. Very friendly and helpful staff (the hotel has been run by the same family since the 19th century). The pub and restaurant were superb. Excellent choice of Scottish ales and whiskies. Breakfast excellent.

~I don't suppose this hotel needs to advertise....the place is just so busy......the annexe we stayed in was just great.....a quick walk up to the hotel...that's alll.....and then you are in a different world......I don't know how they do it but the food is just amazing....staff are so friendly... and nothing is too much bother for them......we will be back if we can get a room....the demand for this hotel is just so geat......we heard from one of the locals they are renovating......hope the standards never change.....a wondefful experience and one I was glad to experience.........

The George Hotel is an absolute delight. I have nothing whatsoever negative to say about this place. It is everything you want in a Highland hotel, but very rarely get. The rooms are gorgeous, the staff friendly and informative, the food delicious, the restaurant/bar cosy and inviting...I could go on! It is quite simply the nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. If you're going to Inveraray, I would definitely recommend a stay here.
