“Pretty good value for money”

Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa

Feb 29, 2008

I have stayed many times at the George Hotel in Inveraray, but due to an offer of 2 night DBB for £80 per person we went to the Loch Fyne.

The hotel has been renovated in the last 18 months and it was nicely laid out. The room we had was large and comfortable, but I'm afraid not as clean as it should have been. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work and as a result there was mould on the ceiling, shower curtain and on the sealant around the bath. If i can see it so can the cleaners. There was also ring mark on the bedside tables.

The food was excellent. I can't fault it as some have done in previous reviews. The service was efficient and friendly. The bar area was comfy if somewhat lacking in atmosphere and the entertainment was pretty dire. A major complaint is that the bar shuts whenever the staff feel like it. It is advertised as being open till 1am, but was always shut before midnight. Not very good for a tourist hotel. Most people complained about this, but the management turned a deaf ear.

The leisure facilities are nothing special. Good if you have kids with you, but as I said, nothing special.

Would I go back to the Loch Fyne? Only If I got a really, really, really cheap deal. Back to the George for us.....

Thank you for your comments.

There is a new managment team in place at the hotel and we have reviewed all the comments on Trip Advisor to plan how we can move forward in the future.

The bar opening and closing procedures are one of these thing that have changed. The bar will remain open as long as it is being used enough or a Night Porter service will be made available with limited beverage available.

I hope you will come and see us again and see all the new improvements to the service, menus and the hotel in general.

Thank you again for your comments.

“Fantastic Break”

Loch Fyne Hotel & Spa

Feb 9, 2008

We stayed for 2 nights in January on DBB basis. The hotel was very good value for what we paid and when we arrived the staff at reception were very friendly and provided us with all the information we needed. The room we were in was very nice and clean. The food and service in the dining room was excellant and there were 3 choices for each course on the table d'hote menu which was fine but if you wanted something of the main menu this was at an extra charge which was very clearly explained to us and is also printed in brackets on the menu at the side of each item. Breakfast was really good it is help yourself to fruit juice/ceareals/porrdge etc then waited on with a choice of the menu ie full English toast and tea or coffee.
The town is only a short walk away and as said previously the George Hotel is defnately a place to visit, we didn't have a meal there but had a good night out in the bar. The only complaint we would have about the hotel was the heat, we had to have the bedroom window open all night and it was really warm in the dining room but obviously some people would appreciate it.

Stayed for 3 nights in January for a relaxing break. Reception staff were helpful and friendly on arrival, room was small but clean and had everything you need for a few nights stay. Towels were changed every day.
Food in the restaurant was excellent. We were on DBB and the table d'hote menu had a varied selection which changed every day. Unlike some previous reviews it was made very clear to us that if we wanted to have anything off main menu it would cost extra. But we always found something to eat off our set menu as there were various meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The service we got was also excellent and we never had to ask for anything.
We also enjoyed using the excellent pool facilities each day, which included a jacuzzi and outdoor hot-tub.
All in all a very enjoyable stay in a great hotel with friendly and helpful staff and superb food. Can't wait to go back in future.

I stayed in the Loch Fyne hotel January this year. I would say overall for a three star it was very good. Clean and all staff very friendly. My room was in the new building and was very nice.

I was with my partner for a two night stay we took the DBB package which was £140. Don't think you can complain for £35 a day.

Regarding the comments about the charges on the menu. I don't know if this has just been updated, however the prices and information needed is very clear on the menu ie the price in brackets is the price DBB guest pay extra. This is clearly stated.

The meals were OK. You get what you pay for so a bit party night standard. Breakfast was good.

We took out dog with us and could get in the George hotel bar with her. We had lunch in there, which was fab.

“Drop in Standards”

I have visited the Loch Fyne Hotel every year for the last 5 or 6 years and have always found it to be excellent hotel, indeed one of my favourite hotels in Scotland. It still is a good hotel with very high standards of cleanliness and extremely friendly and helpful staff.
However on my most recent visit I could not help but notice the drop in standards in the dining room, this I think is down to a lack of staff employed. The meal was of the usual high quality but the set menu had the number of courses reduced, and I did find it a bit annoying to have to have to continually ask for service, should I really need to ask the waiter for a bread roll, then to have to ask to have used glasses removed from the table and finally after an unacceptable wait had to ask if we could have our sweet, this when the dining room had no more than six tables occupied.
The Loch Fyne Hotel has undergone an expansion programme over the last few years when the number of rooms has increased; I really do hope that this expansion is not at the expense of the previous outstanding standards of service.
