“Very nice short break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2014

Stayed at the Royal for a weekend break, had a lovely room facing the harbour. Food in the hotel is very good both in the restaurant and in the pub. Scottish breakfast is amazing! The weather was typically Scottish, very wet but then beautiful sunshine when we left Monday morning which was a great boost to the lovely scenery on the way home.

Rooms are well appointed with everything you need. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a short stay but not much to do in the area.

Room Tip: ask for room facing harbour

Stayed at the Royal Hotel for two nights last weekend. It was fantastic.
The room was a great size, with a really comfy bed. The shower was really powerful and plenty of hot water.
The cooked breakfast was tasty and very filling.
The bar was reasonably priced and the staff friendly and very good at their jobs. There were a couple of locals in who were drunk and the guys refused to serve them any more drinks, knowing they had caused problems previously. Well done guys!
Well worth a return visit.

Fantastic hotel. Beautiful rooms with massive beds and big bathroom with bath and separate shower. Beautiful view over the dock. Lovely little bar downstairs. Nice restaurant evening meal was lovely as was breakfast. Not a lot to do in the village tho.

Room Tip: Room over looking the little roundabout was noisy as the local kids gathered there at night

Let's keep this short and sweet. After a 7.5 hour drive overall last Sunday, was a pleasure to arrive at this hotel. Receptionist instantly on our wavelength :o) Room and food lovely - staff were excellent throughout - nothing was too much trouble.

We ate in their restaurant and the food was great. Bar is a little steep on some prices, however it's a great place to stay. Definitely set us up well for the week ahead.

Room Tip: Great views from rooms of the bay. Even on wet/windy days.

Stayed here for a weekend break to golf at Machrihanish and to just chill out. The hotel is a fantastic and much needed addition to the local scene. The rooms are perfect - high quality furnishings, great size, lovely interior design and amazing pictures of Campeltown of old adorn the walls. The service is just spot on - really warm and friendly staff who actually do care. Well done to everyone.

Only criticism is the restaurant. It could never be described as bad - it's just not quite as good as the rest of the hotel experience and not as good as the food at The Old Clubhouse Pub in Machrihanish (same ownership I think).

Overall - highly recommended and puts some of it's big competitors like Gleneages to shame with it's quality and value for money.
