“Perfect Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Couldn't fault it,staff are friendly and very helpful, the room was perfect with glorious sea views from the spacious balcony, the dinner was delicious and the evening cabaret was top class, slept peacefully in very comfortable bed, then excellent choice of beautifully cooked breakfast in the morning. Will definitely look forward to a return visit.

Arrived 1st April for a 2 night stay. Room was clean, had lovely toiletries, tea/coffee and shortbread. Bed was one of the most comfortable I have slept it (or was it the beautiful sea air and peacefullness?) The view from the balcony was stunning and the perfect place to watch incredible sunsets. Couldn't believe we were able to sit out on our balcony both afternoons as they were little sun traps! Staff could not have been more friendly and helpful. Despite trying to get back up and running after the horrendous weathers of the previous week, nothing was too much for the staff. This hotel is a must if you are ever in this stunning part of Scotland.

Room Tip: Try and get a room with a balcony - well worth that little extra

Stayed at the Putechan for two nights on the 20th March 2013, fab room, lovely, hotel, excellent views, nice & clean, all the staff were very friendly made us feel welcome and relaxed, the food was great and would highly recommend this first class hotel overlooking one of the nicest spots in the world.
On the Friday it started to snow and we were stranded. The staff at the putechan were fantastic, David and Lauren kept us warm and safe, Ronnie the chef kept us fed his food was amazing all cooked on camping stoves. Thank you to all our fellow survivors for all the stories and jokes we shared. Big thanks to, Lauren, David and Ronnie for making our stay unforgettable and extra special. Hope to see everyone soon.

We are just returning from a break at the Putechan and have had a fantastic stay.

We had a sea facing room that was spotlessly clean, very nicely furnished and had lovely touches( Arran aromatics toiletries). As well of course breath taking views.

Breakfast and dinner were both great.

Arrived 21st March for a 2 night stay. Principal room was lovely and had fantastic views. After a walk on the beach we enjoyed our meal in the restaurant. Woke up next morning to discover that overnight snow storms had knocked out all power to Kintyre peninsula and closed the roads. Hotel had no heating, lights or communication with outside world. Also kitchen was all-electric so providing hot food was a major task. This could have been a disaster but manager David, assistant Lauren and chef Ronnie pulled out all the stops to take care of their guests.
David and Lauren remained positive and cheerful throughout everything and Ronnie surpassed our wildest expectations by providing fantastic meals on a small camp gas burner for the 8 stranded guests who were staying in the hotel. Eleven of us ate by candlelight in front of a log fire, chatting, laughing and swapping jokes and stories. The view from the balcony was of a blizzard but the hotel staff and guests stayed as cosy as possible and became the Putechan Survival Team, every one pulling together and making our stay truly memorable. Well done to the heroes and heroine who deserve a huge pat on the back (and even bigger pay-rise) for smiling and looking after their guests under incredibly difficult circumstances. We escaped (in a police led convoy) at 10am Monday. Hope the power is back on soon so they can begin the task of restoring Putechan to its former glory.

Barbara,

Back up and running and in full swing again,

In actual fact we had a bit of a ball with you guys and even though we have portrayed doom and gloom to our owners I will be found out here but it was a great experience for us and showcased to the staff that were here exactly the type of service we should provide regardless of our situation, Power or no power and no heating or gas for that matter,

We can't wait to see you again, same time next year???? ha ha

We stayed her ovenight in march and thought that the room was lovely - spacious with a massive bed. Had a lovely view over the water with a balcony to sit out on - but unfortunately as it was so cold we didnt get to use it. Very nice bathroom with large round bath and powerful shower. We had a very nice evening meal and thought the menu was nice and decent value. Was a bit disappointed in my pancakes which i got for breakfast the next day but that was maybe just the wrong choice from me from a decent breakfast menu.

Its the kind of place you come to get away from things i think as its pretty isolated and we ventured into see what campbeltown had to offer and the answer was "not very much"! Was a nice drive home the next day as the rain and the snow had gone and it was picturesque driving along the waterside.

Its a bit of a distance from our home to think that we would return but we would recommend it to anyone who is looking for somewhere to stay in this area

With practically no light pollution, and clever outdoor lighting systems the Putechan enjoys fantastic stargazing on a cloudless night. ... more   less
