Came here tonight for dinner, first and last time. Very overpriced, mediocre food. The prawn cocktail was absolutely appalling - frozen, cold tiny prawns on a small bed of salad with a tiny tickle of uninspiring sauce, two of us complained but nothing was done. Three of us had steaks at £22.95 each, plus three sauces priced separately! It was obvious a lot of the veg had been frozen, the chips were nasty frozen supermarket offerings. Two of the sauces didn't arrive until the steaks were almost finished despite asking what had happened to them. The young inexperienced staff were out of their depth as a large party of diners then arrived. No-one came to ask if we had enjoyed our meal or to say goodnight as we left all agreeing that we did not wish to waste any more money on dodgy desserts. With only two glasses of house wine our bill came to £125 for four of us for two courses each. Far too expensive for the quality of food offered. Wish we'd gone to the George Hotel instead, even the bar food there is of a much higher quality than this overpriced mediocrity. Definitely won't return - SO disappointing.

On the rare occasion that we have a complaint about a dish, we usually offer to replace it without any quibble. The only prawns we use for our Prawn Cocktails are North Atlantic which we believe are a reasonable size for this dish. We would have been happy to bring out some extra sauce if it had been requested but it is not clear in your review if you complained when it was served and the Prawn Cocktails were replaced or once you had finished - there is not much we can do if it was the latter.
We do not use frozen veg for dinner service, we buy it fresh from a supplier based in Montrose and we only purchase fresh “chilled” chips – not frozen as you state so your comment is completely inaccurate.
Our fillet steaks are locally produced and approximately 8 ounces uncooked weight and at £22.25 including onion rings, tomato, mushrooms, chips and vegetables, we believe this is a fair and reasonable price. Your bill included three of these so it is not surprising that your total bill came to almost £125.00 as it also included four starters, two cokes, two glasses of wine and a further three starters that one of your party had as a main course.
You appear surprised that we charge extra for a sauce to go with a steak but most restaurants do this. I would point out that two of the sauces were not charged for because of the delay but you have omitted to mention this.
You should have been asked if everything was all right with your meal and I apologise if this was not done. We usually check a few minutes after the meal has been served and again when the plates are cleared.

I must say that I take exception to your comment “we did not wish to waste any more money on dodgy desserts” when you did not have one, how can you make a judgement on them – this is quite unfair.
You may have read some of the other reviews about the food at The Park Hotel which are generally very good indeed but unfortunately, we are not perfect and sometimes things go wrong as appears to have happened on the night you were here. When this happens, I always accept that we can make mistakes and therefore accept any justified criticism. However, some of your comments are valid but others are simply inaccurate or unfair. You have also scored us on our rooms but do not see how you can do this if were not a resident and therefore not in a bedroom.
