“Good value attraction”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

All,visitors take a guided tour which is informative and gives time to look around. There are a lot of stairs so anyone with mobility problems may struggle. The guide was knowledgeable and the rooms used by the queen mother are untouched.

Didn't have time to look at the walled garden but the highland cattle are visible and interesting to see.

“A Scottish Beauty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2014

A lovely castle with an amazing history. We really enjoyed the guided tour. The guide ensured that those with access issues were informed about, how they could join in. We loved they family feel to this castle. Many castles only show their history, not the families who created this history. Great facilities, and many families only visit the gardens, and visit the highland cattle.

“Astounding Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2014

We arrived just before opening time at ten am to be told the tour did not start until 10:30, and you cannot enter the castle without the tour starting, we tried to wait in a queue at the bottom of the stairs but told this was not possible and to return just before the tour starts, however it is first come first served so no guarantee on being on the tour!!

We had to pay for the castle entry before even entering the car park in cash, which was unexpected as I had little cash on me and so depleted the cash source.

Every room we wanted to go into we had to wait a while with no explanation and so the tour guide was left to talk more than he probably wanted to.

The castle is gorgeous as are the surrounding woods, we saw a mole which was probably more exciting to us than the garden who was trying to remove mole hills!!!

I feel the tour was all around the queen mother and appreciate her history to the castle but I would have preferred a little more about the castle itself and less about her.

Brian the guide was fab as was the afternoon tea in the cafe, a huge pot of tea (didnt match the rest of the service though!!) a few sandwiches and a mass of cakes

“Glamis Castle”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2014

I was very dissapointed on my recent visit to Glamis Castle. The castle itself is a stunning place to visit alas the guided tour was hurried (last one of the day 4:30) we were shown 2/3 things in a room and hurried to the next room. The information was very short and the guide gave the impression she had somewhere else to go! the last room was locked and she dissapeared without even a goodbye leaving us to find our own way out. We have been to many scottish castles this year which we have found very enjoyable but alas this one not! As this is one of the most important castles in scottish heritage. The guided tour can make a castle especially if the guides can communicate well with the visitor and answer most questions asked of them, i have a 6 year old boy who is very interested in these places of interest and even he said it was not what he expected! In my mind this matter has to be addressed. I only travelled 2/5 hours to Glamis and i felt cheated, our company had visitors from as far as Canada and i felt sorry for them to go away with not much history of the spectacular Glamis Castle!

Beautiful Castle together with a very good guide made this a visit to remember. Childhood home of HM The Queen Mother and birthplace of Princess Margaret. Lots of family photos and childhood letters from the present queen to her granny
