“Excellent meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Had a special meal to celebrate a 40th birthday. First class service and quality of food was excellent. The menu was varied from comfort food to special dishes, a great choice. We dined in the dining room as opposed to the pub. The surroundings were ok but a bit dated. I am sure it's the same wallpaper that was on the last time I was there which is a good number of years ago. Overall no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Myself and a friend booked in to the Strathmore Arms after we were unable to get accommodation in Kirriemuir. What a very pleasant surprise! We arrived after 9pm but providing a meal for us was not an issue for which we were very grateful. Food was fantastic and portion size was great. We booked a twin room which was extremely comfortable. Breakfast was enough to keep us going most of the day. We would like to thank the Spanish waitress(didn't get her name) for her exceptional hospitality. Nothing was too much trouble, her customer service was second to none. The only complaint we had was the noise from a washing machine or tumble dryer in the private accommodation above us at 7am on Sunday morning. Overall excellent accommodation and food for a very reasonable price. We come to Kirriemuir every year and usually stay in the town, however, in future we will return to the Strathmore Arms at Glamis a short bus trip away.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front of the hotel, but were not disturbed in any way by traffic noise

From the outside the place looks like a big house but this is deceiving as the interior is warm and cosy and has character. The staff were most welcoming and had us booked in quickly. As we would have a full buffet in the evening we had a snack late afternoon and had a look at the menu which looked quite good and fairly reasonably price even though drinks were expensive, £1.90 for a small glass of coke and alcoholic drinks with prices more akin to a city centre.
The room was roomy and a very comfy bed, all in all very good value for money. A little draw back with the cold water as it had to be run for quite time before it became clear and drinkable even though a heavy taste still lingered, not too sure what was colouring and flavouring the water.
The function went well and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves even though it was a drag having to go through to the public bar for drinks. In there the locals seemed to recent visitors, as if we were invading their place. A few were obviously worse the wear for drink and were openly hostile and very argumentative, really spoiling the night.
Sleep was difficult as there were noises echoing throughout the hotel late into the night probably staff, then starting very early in the morning accompanied by children running about, screaming and the TVs in other rooms were so load we could hear what programs were on. So after a few hours of disturbed sleep we decided to get up but I felt really rough. Lack of sleep, funny water or something from the buffet I’m not too sure and as I did not have much to drink my money is on the poor water quality that up set my stomach. We went downstairs and it was commented by the staff that I looked rough and must of had good night. Where in reality, I was looking rough from a severe lack of sleep and being sick from drinking poor quality water.
In summary take earplugs, bottled water and stay away from the locals.

Visited here a few times and have always found it cosy.. friendly... and food very good there is a good selection on menu loved the steak pie other enjoyed the salmon ..there was a real coal fire blazing in the lounge which made it really cosy to enjoy our meal....There is also a little area if you just want a coffee or drink..good value and friendly staff.. you have to drive into the villiage of glamis and its just up from the castle gates...

Four of us had lunch at the Strathmore Arms Hotel. It was a cold day but the fire was on and there was a cosy feel to the place. We were attended to immediately by a young gentleman with a big smile. We all agreed that the food was delicious and the service excellent. We will all be returning very soon.

One very small thing though - I think the appearance of the menus could be improved - bit curled up at the edges.

My wife and I decided to try again this Glamis hotel for lunch as we have been doing our rounds with the other hotels etc for lunches and we want to give each a shot at having our trade . On a Nice sunny warm day on 1st March we arrived early than noon but we were given a wonderful welcome by your staff as usual and she took us to a table and gave us an order for soft drinks and they arrived soon after then we did the order for the meal .
I asked the staff member why does the Hotel have Prawns from Norway and not the ones from our Scottish Coasts and she said that it was costs but surely the hotel can get the Scottish Prawns at a better price and put them on the menu for the Strathmore Arms Hotel in Glamis ? Surely Scottish fish is better than buying from afar ?

Also the menu seems old and looks old too when it is brought out to the customers ? Maybe a change in the menu too might help

Have been here several times for food and drink. This time just for a drink after a fun filled muddy walk. We drink real ale and are always disappointed with the beer on tap here. They are local beers, but they are tasteless. I wish they were better as there is no other place to go for miles for a decent pint. Also the bar area is not large enough once the tables start filling with people wanting food. The tables are always reserved so there is nowhere to sit. Also the bar service can be slow. They seem to mostly have something else to do other than looking to see if you require a top up... Will go back as there is nowhere else to go. Just hope they take note, and look after the bar customers not just the diners.
