This hotel is not up to the usual standards of Swallow hotels, it's potential is great - swimming pool, roof top sitting area and gym. We had to keep checking we were in a Swallow hotel as the decor was very dated, although you could not fault the bedlinen and towels. The price was terrific and despite the lack of welcome, lack of any explanation as to how the hotel functions, ie when and where breakfast was served etc and no eye contact from reception, we did receive good value for money. The rooms are pretty basic, but our whole experience could have been heightened by a good welcome and orientation of the hotel. If all of the staff were as pleasant and obliging as the breakfast staff then this would have been a great stay at a bargain price. An orientation and welcome to the swimming pool would have been nice too! We bought fish and chips at The Pend Fish and Chip Shop - it was very poor, the kids fish fingers were junk and fit only for the bin. When in the area it is worth visiting Barrie's birthplace - the writer of Peter Pan.
