“Welcoming and comfortable B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

My wife and I stayed for 4 days, and really enjoyed our visit to the Morven, with its great views over Carnoustie to the River Tay. The comfortable bedroom and the lovely breakfasts made it a pleasure to return to each day. Whatever time we wanted to get away in the mornings, Barbara would make sure that the breakfast was ready on time, she made everything easy. I was brought up in Carnoustie in the 1950's, and camped in the hotel grounds with the sons of the owners at that time. It was lovely to stay again, but this time enjoying the home comforts inside! We would recommend the Morven to anyone, and will certainly go again.

When my husband and I arrived at Morven House, we were greeted at the front door by Barbara, who very kindly showed us around, gave us keys, and asked what time we would like breakfast in the morning. She also made sure to ask if we have any special dietary requests. We're not too fussy, so we said we'd take the regular fare. We went to our room to get settled, and found it to be clean and comfortable. It had lovely, huge windows that opened all the way, so I immediately opened them wide, and made us each a cup of coffee.

The bed was extremely comfortable, the food was very nice, and the proprietor was lovely. We liked Morven House so much that we decided to stay an extra evening instead of moving further afield. I would absolutely recommend staying here to anyone in the area. We will definitely be back!

PS: I'm not sure why people keep saying that Morven House looks scary from the outside. To me, it looked like a really nice, Georgian mansion house with real slate tiles on the roof (not the prefab look-alikes they sell these days). It also has a beautiful view.

Myself and a mate recently stayed at the Morven for 5 days, as a base to watch the Women's British Open at Carnoustie.

I must say that driving into the car park and seeing the house for the first time does remind you of such films as The Amityville Horror, it's a very eerie property.

We knocked on the door and were greated by David who said 'oh, are you sure you are booked in today', very strange considering i'd called the night before and spoken with him to confirm my reservation and arrival time.

However, after this initial 'blip' I must say I was very pleasantly surprised after that. The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable with a fantastic view of the golf course from our 2nd floor room. Barbara is a very warm, friendly hostess who can't do enough for you, the breakfasts were tasty and plentiful.

Overall i'd definately recommend the Morven if you are spending time in Carnoustie, it's very convenient for the golf course (5 mins walk) and competitively priced meaning very good value for money.

Despite the look of the house, which would do a Dickens novel proud, it's very warm inside - the atmosphere aided and abetted by the proprietor, Barbara, who has a wicked sense of humour, likes to Tango (this is not a euphemism) and is most accommodating.

The rooms are pleasant (although one or two of them are a little on the small side) and well appointed, and if you do 'twee' you'll love the decor.

The breakfasts (cooked by Barbara - if you strain your ears in the dining room, you can hear her using the condiments as maracas while she's in preparation mode) are excellent, and well worth starving the night before for. Food in Carnoustie is on the unacceptable side of barely edible in most cases, so a slap up at Morven to start your day works well.

Somewhat austere on the outside; much warmer (in every sense) on the inside.

Room Tip: Ask for a big one, with a view of the Carnoustie golf course.
