“The best kept secret of Old Aberdeen”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013 via mobile

This is the coffee shop to go to. Coffee and food is always excellent. Craig and Edwige run a first class place where the emphasis is on quality of food and friendliness of staff. Every time we have been we have been made very welcome and nothing has been too much trouble for the staff. The no.1 coffee shop in Aberdeen the place to go and relax in. First class guys keep up the good work.

“Great food and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

A hidden gem of Aberdeen University's campus, the upstairs in Kilau is a great place to spend an afternoon with friends or pop in for a quick bite to eat. The food served here is excellent, restaurant standard for a fraction of the price. The menu often changes and there are many different cakes etc available. They also have a great selection of quirky soft drinks, no big brands like Coca-Cola or Pepsi served here.
The staff are always very friendly and accommodating. All in all, a great treat on campus.

“a wee gem for coffee and fabulous fresh home made food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 12, 2013

I love going to Kilau - from the calm atmosphere in the quirky building, to the home made cakes and friendly staff this place never disappoints! The menu has varied each time I have been so I've been able to sample many different lunches including gorgeous salads (especially the goats cheese and butternut squash one!), very tasty soup and the breakfast foccacia is awesome and a nice change from the usual all day breakfasts served elsewhere. Even if you're just in for a coffee and a cake then you won't be disappointed and the water with the coffees adds a lovely finishing touch. I'm one happy customer (and so are my friends that I've brought along!).

“Best coffee I've had in Aberdeen, but could still be better”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

I'm not a local to Aberdeen so perhaps haven't sampled as much as others, but I had easily my best coffee in Kilau. It's rare to find a flat white actually served as a flat white - not a huge latte - so they win points for that alone, but it was also full of flavour. Still not quite as good as I've had in other cities, but not far from ideal.

The pastry I had sadly wasn't up to quite the same standard - it looked suspiciously similar to what I might get in Sainsbury's and tasted equally dry. Still, a very nice, and I just wish they were still open on Little Belmont Street as it would be a lot more convenient.

“Characterful, Friendly Cafe”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

I love this place! It's a delightful gift to the area. I take away coffee regularly after sitting for a while browsing the papers and enjoying the banter from Craig and his staff who always have a smile and a warm welcome whatever the weather! Upstairs you'll find a cosy cafe restaurant with daily 'specials'. I love the continental feel to the place with the little unexpected touches such as a small glass of flavoured water to go with your coffee. It's open until 8pm on weekdays so I can go after work to meet up with friends. Great idea recently is the introduction of BYOB (with a small corkage charge). Please, please visit so this great addition to Old Aberdeen flourishes and remains!
